Title: Leather alteration
Post by: abby normal on May 31, 2010, 10:23:46 AM
Greetings.  Just purchased an alpinestars suit ... Had to get one suitable
For height, and it ended up way baggy.  Guess I don't have the correct BMI.
Anyone know of a place in socal which will do leathers fitting / alteration?

Thanks.

Don't have personal experience, but I've held on to this number for a alteration I've been meaning to do:

Speed Sport Leathers
918-747-8874

Was a referral from a knowledgeable source.

That's a start, but she's in Oklahoma.  I was looking for something in
So-cal.  I'm pretty sure I need to walk it in and put it on to get the
Fit right.

I would give Mike a call at the Kushitani store. He's in the Marina.

Z Custom Leathers in Santa Ana might be able to do it [coffee]. Give it a try.

thanks ... i found Z-custom last night.  they list alterations on all brands.  i think
that's the ticket, and they're within day-trip distance.  may find that buying
custom would have been cheaper than A-stars + alterations, but that ship has sailed.

thanks all.

+1 on Z-custom leathers. Nice Aussi couple runs the shop. $25 min. charge but I doubt you're looking at a min. charge.

yeah, i'm noodling the numbers ... at what point do i cut my losses and simply buy custom?
not sure yet.  i'd probably go up to $400 for alterations.

i'm not sure who the stock A-stars suits are made for, but it sure wasn't me.

ah well ... live and learn.

There is a shop in Palos Verdes that does all the AStar reapirs to boots. I think I've seen leathers in there as well.  I'll drive by on my way home and see if I can get the name of the shop.

For what it's worth, there's a guy I work with that makes chaps, motorcycle seats, and does leather repairs that might be able to, but lives in north San Diego area.
