I've got a 2000 M750 which I purchased as a "project" bike. I'm about done fiddling, but one of my last unknowns was getting the 2001 (I think) tach working.
I have the proper housing and the previous owner hooked up the lights and power on the tach, but the signal wire (a gray wire) goes to null, i.e. it's not actually connected to anything.
Would it be possible to just hook the wire to the coil or do I need some sort of buffer/resistor inline to protect the tach?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tie it into either the grey wire on the LH sparkbox, or the brown/green wire on the RH sparkbox. Either will provide tach signal.
that looks like a tacho from a bike with an immobilisor, all of which are injected. the input on them is more than 1 pulse per cycle, i think it's 4 or so. so i don't think you'll be able to get it to work. could be wrong tho.

I guess the converter box from these http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7erz1/id1.html#tsdmod (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7erz1/id1.html#tsdmod) might be the ticket. All I can do is hook it up and if my tach is a wee bit slow then I'll need the multiplier box.
