Title: open clutch cover?? Post by: duckseason on June 05, 2010, 07:29:28 AM pj's told me that an open clutch cover keeps your clutches and steels cleaner.. but wouldn't an open cover allow for dirt and other debris to enter?
what are the pros and cons of having one Title: Re: open clutch cover?? Post by: scduc on June 05, 2010, 07:59:39 AM Its the old "catch 22". With the cover on, the clutch dust has no where to go, thus it gets distributed back into the plates. With the cover removed, then road grim can get in there. however, with the cover off, (the clutch spinning) grit will have a pretty hard time getting to the plates. It will mostly just bounce away. Most people go with the cool looking covers that allow the dust to fall away and block 99%+ of the road grit and protect in case of crash. The "no" cover clutches are subject to damage if tipping over on that side. I do not have an open cover yet, as I was hoping to get and "Area 51" cover from SpeedyMoto. They no longer make that style so I want to see if I can make one similar.
