I bought a new EK chain and the thing has enough lube on it to last a lifetime. I know if I put it on I'll just end up cleaning it off the bike instead of doing it now.
I just tried pressure washing it off and it just pushed it around. Can I soak it diesel? Is there anything that'll get rid of it?
I'd prefer to get it all off then just rewax it with Maxima.
if its that bad Kerosene, but arag and WD40 will probally work well.
I wouldn't do either diesel or kerosene; hat would just hurt the Orings.
Wd40 and a rag is the way to go, just make sure to reapply lube afterwards!
The factory lube didn't fling too badly on any new chain I ever installed.
It's always been more like a whitish grease.

Yeah, I think its just white lithium grease. Its totally caked on there, globbed on. I already got it all over the bike while pulling the chain thru the swing arm. Its a giant mess.
Mine didn't fling.
I'd moisten a rag with wd-40 or kerosene and just wipe a little off if it bothers you.
I think if you use enough to actually clean it it will be even messier.

Wouldn't that be bad for the chain? Bad as in getting water passed the o/x rings.

Kerosene is fine and is often recommended to clean chains (my Bandit manual recommends kerosene).

That would be my thoughts as well. I've also never had much fling from the factory lube.
bean clean. but it might remove all the lube.

You got that backwards - WD40 is a penetrant that could make it past the o-rings. Diesel or kerosene is the way to clean any chain whether it be o-ring or otherwise. I'm surprised at how many people don't know this.

True, but only if you use it on the chain as a spray.
It works fine when sprayed on a rag to wipe down the chain in my experience.
WD-40.
clean with chainlube
piss on it and wipe it with a bra
what size?
40 I
Why clean a factory lubed chain?!?
Best lube there is for the purpose,
never caused me any problems... :o [roll]
Not even greasy rims.

Best be sure it's your own bra though.

I figured it would fling. Normally I would agree, but this thing looks like it was just dipped in a bucket of white lithium grease.
Plus it would just collect dirt. I spent $130 bucks on the chain, basically put even more money into redoing the whole rear of my bike, had my bike apart for the last two months, so its going to look good, or else.
If it has excess factory packing then wipe it down with a shop towel. I wouldn't put any liquid on it (other than pee cause that won't do anything)
I have used heavy chain grease to relube a chain before ( which takes hours to do it right) it is far better than anything you can spray but a major pita
My chain had a shit load of grease on it, just wiped it off with a couple of rags.
I just wipe new chains off with a rag and ride the bike. It may fling a little, but nowhere near as bad as you'd expect. After a couple hundred miles you won't know it was ever there.
I also won't use WD-40 on an O/X ring chain (although just spraying it on a rag and wiping would be OK).
I just let it fling to create a protective film on the bike.
Makes fun rorschach-like designs on the Quat-D too. [thumbsup]

I think I saw your bike up in PA last year, you could definitely use all the protective film you can get [moto]
