Title: 2005 S4R, PCIII.....What the fuuuuuuuuuuu
Post by: PhoenixS4R on June 05, 2010, 06:09:51 PM
So, in time for my birthday I received my Marvin Midpipe and pcIII.

Threw the mid pipe on, though the bike would run like shit do too being to lean, but it ran fine..... Decided today to install the PCIII.  Can't get it tuned today but figured a map that was close would be better then running lean....

Install went fine, was having a blast through my favorite road, loving the improved midrange.  Going through a tight left hander, I twist the throttle........and nothing....  I can't get the bike to respond to any throttle input.....

Make it to a turn out, the PCIII would not light up at all.  Checked the fuse box, all good.  Noticed the tail light bulb was burned out but can't imagine that has anything to do with it?

Thanks to a nice guy named Mark on a yamaha I was able to pull the pc3 off and revert back to stock where the bike fired up and rode off like a champ.

I'm back at the house now, plugged the PCIII into my computer (off bike, with 9v connector) and everything lights up fine and the map gets pulled up no problem.

What else could I check?

Did you install the PCIII using the suplied Tap-in Connector?

I've had issues with those coming loose

Not sure what you mean?

The only connectors I had were for the two injectors and the throttle body position (Plus ground neg)  I just assumed it drew power from the injectors?

I've had problems with the connectors on the injector plugs.  Apparently the build quality on the plugs is not the greatest, and if not careful, the pins can be pushed back (out) loosing contact.

Did your wire connectors look like this:

Some of the PCIII's use a tap connector like mother posted.

The PCIII for my S4 didn't.

Check the connectors as darkstar suggested.

Make sure the lug on the ground wire is secure, IIRC they don't use a real good setup there.

No, the connectors supplied do not look like that.

I'm assuming to prevent this I can electrical tape the snot out of the inline connectors, but I would believe my problem to be the connection to the injectors themselves.  Any tips on making those not come loose?

The injector plugs have clips to keep them secure.

check ground, sounds like ground rattling loose?

Ground was fine.

I'll have to reconnect it again another day when I'm not too lazy to take the air box off again and see whats up.

Thanks guys.

I assume you covered the basics

-ground should be ran to the battery

And the other connectors are the injectors and TPS.

Orange Leads go to the Horiz Cyl and the Yellow leads go to the Vertical cylinder.

Make sure you do not mix up the stock connectors.

The power commander will not have power until the bike is started or going through the initial injector priming when the key is first turned on.

Was the trim on your bike ever set up before you installed the power commander?

The oil should have been changed and CO levels set via trim adjustment before the PC was installed.

Get this done before you re-install the power commander and you will be much happier.

Figured it out. Should have taken pictures for an explanation but here it goes for reference if anyone has my issue.

Where the two wires go into the plug that attach inline for the injector, the clip top hold the gromets/wires in wasn't suffice, and the wires and grommet were backing out as I plugged it in.

I MacGyvered a solution with stuffing some electrical tape in between the gromets and the retaining clip so the grommets and the wires can't move.

Really, really bad design, but hey it works now!
