Title: CFB conference silliness
Post by: DW on June 09, 2010, 03:45:43 PM
Well, it looks like we (Huskers) are leaving the Big 12 for the Big 10!  I have to admit, I look forward to mixing it up with Mich and the other OSU.  Of course, they will need to make sure the Oklahoma game lives on in non-conference play. Thoughts?

Damn you guys for starting this shit.  [laugh] [laugh]

I think that if the Horns and Aggies don't come to the SEC, we are gonna eat the bottom half of the ACC.   [thumbsup]

I think it is total BS.  N is part of the original big 8.  I guess all the moving schools are just whores looking for a couple extra bucks.

Or, they are proactively watching out for their own interests. In a time when things are looking to change, it is best not to be the last one without an option. I have mixed feelings about it either way, but oversimplification of the issues doesn't get us anywhere.  I'd like to see the Big 12 continue, but at the same time, the North division has been so weak. With Nebraska looking like they are returning to strength, might be a good time to find some better competition.  Could also serve to bolster the Big Ten at the same time.

I'd rather have the Big12 remain intact but that's not going to happen from the looks of it.  I blame the BigTen since they can't count the eleven schools they have in their conference already and needs one more for a championship game.   [laugh] [laugh]

Pac-10 sounds like they could become the Pac-16... with most of the schools no where near the Pacific.... guess we will no longer play every team every season... maybe split into two 8 team divisions and have a championship game as well... could be interesting... would rather see N come instead of Oklahoma or Texas....

Although... somebody needs to pull Boise State into a big league... they would help any conference

Having all these schools joining the PAC10 is just crazy talk.  But it does make a lot of cents since the PAC10 school is kind of isolated from the rest of the country.  Having some Mountain timezone schools would give the conference a lot of exposure.

However, as a PAC10 school alumni, I don't like this idea one bit.  I'd rather expand the league by pulling in schools in Cali, Idaho, and Nevada just so we can stay true to the PAC moniker.  Maybe Colorado.  But they definitely won't bring in the same kind of money as Texas or Oklahoma.

Well, 1 down (CO to pac 10 is official).

So much for 100+ years of tradition (big 8)

Bring in Texas...now they'll have to play a few good teams prior to being sent to the NC game!  [evil]  [coffee]

j/k to all the Texas fans  ;D

Anyway...seems lame to me. Now the "Pac-10" won't all play each other as they do now, and there is talk of dividing it up into two sub conferences...essentially the original members, and the new members, with the 2 only playing each other for the conference championship.

Nebraska to the Big10 and all the Texas schools want to stick together and move as a unit... maybe they can swallow a smaller conference and keep the Big12 alive...

I am thinking we will have a drastically different CF landscape when this dust settles.  And it isn't necessarily a bad thing.
