Title: Brake pads for M696
Post by: Dr. D on June 15, 2010, 01:17:10 AM

I have about 4,500 miles on my '09 M696.  I bought it used with about 3,200 miles on it; I don't know how the two previous owners rode.  I have two track days on it with another three to go this year.

The brakes are good, but a little soft.  What are recommendations for brake pads on the M696 that will grabe stronger?  Anything about the replacing of the pads that I should be wary of?

Check this link out.

Id say its important to get any glazing off the rotors, especially when switching compounds. When I did my pads, the head service guy at my dealer recommended that I use a scour disc mounted on a drill to clean the rotors. After that, bed them in well.

I went with Ferodo ST. Theyre great. It has a progressive feel to it. It starts very light, and as you apply more pressure it begins to grab very hard. Feels nice for trail braking.

how much dust do you get with the ST?

I still get dust, but not much. They pretty much act and feel the same way Chris details on his site. The EBC ones that came stock would always cover my front rim in a thick powdercoat of purple-brown brake dust. The STs are pretty good pads, just slightly tough on the rotors.

cool, thanks!

I'll try the ST's when my pads wear out.
