Title: V Strom
Post by: CougarSlayer on June 04, 2008, 10:47:09 AM
Anyone on this board got one of these things.  Here i am cruising along doing about 50 or better yet 110 going home passing a V Strom I get off on my exit taking it easy waiting for a couples cars  to go so I can have some fun lean time at the traffic circle and.  I do not know what model it is but the V Strom comes flying by full tilt leans in to the turn and vrooom around it went.  In my helmet I was like wow that looks like a lot of fun.  Which prompted my curiosity about the bike.  Went online found out it was a twin but a v twin  people said it was a good old reliable overseas bike but nothing special.   The lean this dude was doing made me want to go pick one up quick.

They're excellent little bikes.  There's 650 and 1000cc versions.  Most people prefer the 650.  They're adventure bikes, but are very well behaved on the road.  They've got a version of the SV650 or SV1000 motor in them ~

So is the Ducati.  They are both 90 degree V twins.  It is the SV motor in a Multistrada like chassis.

I went for a spin on my bosses vstrom 650, and it was  [puke]  compared to my duc.  He seems to like it though - different tastes I guess, or different frame of reference since he has never been on a bike like the Monster.

Test ride a Multistrada.  Similar, but more sporty and less off road capability.

I almost bought a V-Strom 650 (aka the 'Wee Strom'  [laugh]) when I was shopping for my Monster.

There are a few of them on the roads around here.  They're excellent day-trip/commuting bikes, and they can be fitted with bags for longer trips.  That SV650 engine is a sweet mill, too.  The ergos fit a taller rider (like me) quite well.

For what they lack in style, the V-Strom compensates in its sheer versatility.

I like those new Concours 14's.    [evil]    That's a great sport-touring bike.

I know 3 or 4 guys that have the VStrom 1000. All of them love it. 2 of them used to ride GS. They say it is much better than the GS, when taking into consideration also prices.

I own a 650 V-Strom.  It's really a great all-arounder.  What would you like to know?

Sport trim: ;)

Ok debate is now between the 650 and 1000.  I am looking at your 650 duster fully loaded I weight about 225 and was wondering will the 650 have enough zip for me to go riding in the hills when needed if I included a couple of side bags.

My dad has a DL1000 and loves it!  I admit it is ugly, and has no soul, but it's still a nice bike.  I'm thinking about picking one up for an Alaska trip here pretty soon!

yeah I know I was thinking the same exact thing.  Just confirmed what I thought all along you dont need the fastest bike to have fun.  Besides with gas prices soon to reach 1,000,000 dollars a gallon I figure I can save a little dough.

This will tell me more than you ever wanted to know about the 1000 vs. 650 debate:  http://11109.rapidforum.com/area=236

Personally, I'm extremely happy with the 650.  The weight difference and overall distribution is significant when you're off the pavement.  I've never had trouble keeping up on the Wee Strom, even loaded up.
