Title: sounds looser
Post by: ducwrx on June 20, 2010, 02:49:36 PM
I've got about 13,300 miles on my 2002 620ie. The past several hundred miles the bike just sounds like it's rattling more at idle and under throttle with the rate increasing proportional to the throttle amount.

The last valve check was at 6,000 miles. I figured it was the valves loosening up, but the experienced Ducati mechanic I spoke to said if anything, it should get tighter as the shims wear. It'll be at least another week before he can get to it.

Any thoughts on this? Also, what could be causing the rattling sound. I've checked all the obvious bolts and they're all secure.

Thanks.

Valves wouldn't get tighter from shim wear. They do get tighter as the seats wear.

Have you looked to see how many hockey pucks you have left in the fins of the cylinders and heads?

My old 750 got pretty loud as they fell out.

Ah thanks, I must have misunderstood him. I'll check for the hockey pucks. There were some missing years ago, but I haven't looked recently.
