Title: Looking for tail bulb replacements
Post by: coarsegoldkid on June 21, 2010, 07:55:44 AM
Already looked in the replacement parts for Ducati.  I'm looking for the P21 direct replacement tail lamp bulb for the S2R1000.  Hopefully not from the dealer by the way.  It's likely the same for most monsters, brake and tail filaments in one bulb.  The ones I located at O'reilly are a few more watts of power for each filament.  Ducati wiring seems less robust than I feel comfortable with using the slightly higher wattage bulbs.

I use Sylvania 1157 LL  - (LL = "Long Life"... if that's true, then i wonder what the regular life is like...)

go thru them somewhat regularly, seem to blow bright filament every 3-6 mo or so...

any auto parts store should have.

Just get one of these super-bright LED cluster replacements. You can get 'em at most autoparts retailers these days. I've got a 15-led one, and won't go back to regular bulbs anytime soon.  *Better than stock*

I just used an off the shelf one as well (watts weren't exactly the same) - no problems in a year.

As far as 'off the auto parts shelf' bulbs go, here's the skinny:

1157's will work.
1157LL's will work a touch better as they're slightly more stout.
2357's are better still b/c they're more suited for rough service (more supports on the filaments).
2357LL's are the best from an auto parts store as they're the most stout of the regularly available bulbs.  Likely a 2-pack will set you back $6.

Not to get too geeked out on bulbs, BUT do you see any reason why running a 2057LL could be a problem?  Have been running that about 6 months.

Oh yeah, forgot about those.  I don't recall the exact difference but I seem to remember it falling somewhere in the middle between a 1157 and a 2357.  AT this point, just run it till it blows out.
