I'm riding to Philadelphia saturday morning and was thinking of taking I-95 up to Baltimore and then switching over to Route 1 for the rest of the way for a little more fun than 95. Has anyone done this or know if it's a decent ride? Other suggestions to get to Philadelphia from the DC area?
I haven't taken Rte 1 in years, but I do recall TREMENDOUS amts of traffic lights. My suggestion would be to play around on google maps or drop by a Rand McNally or AAA and looks at some alternate roads.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. The PA portion of Rte 1 is pretty decent (I drove it a month ago) but I wasn't sure about the MD side. There aren't a whole lot of roads going in that general direction that will get me there in half a day haha. Some people around here said Rte 40 is a decent I95 alternative.
I would use Rt.40 to somewhere north of Aberdeen Proving grounds and then if you still want, then go Route 1...
Consider some other options: Come into Philly from the West, US15 to US 30 to US 222 to Trnpk or I95 to 695 to I83 to US 30 to US 222 to Trnpk, recently did those routes up to that area, not bad, swing by FBF while your up there - better then I95. Also you might consider US50 to US301 to Rt. 299 to US1(was not bad from Rt.299) to I95 to US202. Hope that helps - Gene
