Title: 2up on a 620 question Post by: eesnas on June 25, 2010, 10:06:52 AM So I am not the lightest guy out there, I want to take my girl out on the bike this weekend and just curious if there's any reason I should not. I live in the city now and just plan to take the bike down to the coffee shop, no twisties or agressive riding at all, just a bunch of red lights.
I've seen people riding 2up on tiny vespas and it got me thinking, "if they can ride on that we can surely do the same on my Duc..." Any tips on the 2up city riding thing? I've never had a passenger but also never lived in an area that would be good for it. So many times I just putt around the city and wish she could be along with me to see the sights on the bike... For some reason I feel like she'd fall off the back if I go up a steep hill, stupid concern but just thinking that. The good thing is I have clip-ons so it should leave her a good about of room back there, well relatively speaking- I know the seat is not ideal for 2up riding... Have her read it too. The 620 will move you just fine, though the suspension might need a bit of adjustment. One of the faster people I know was working on not only getting his knee down while 2up on a 620....his passenger was trying for it too. Weee! A couple of the women (like my g/f and ex) are tall and leggy (both ~5'8 ) so it gets uncomfortable for them after about an hour or so since the passenger pegs are so high. Since we're usually riding around the city, I've just learned to stop every so often and stretch. The shorter chics do just fine Def not something I'd do for a long trip, but putting around town should be fine. no issues with the engine etc, the most noticeable difference in the ride is the increased stopping distance, so be sure to take that into consideration (among other things) Title: Re: 2up on a 620 question Post by: The Bearded Duc on June 25, 2010, 10:40:11 AM You'll be fine.
And I wouldn't bother with the suspension unless you're only planning on using the duc for 2up riding. Besides, the 620 isn't adjustable so it would be more hassle than it's worth, especially if you're just going on a light jaunt through the city. +1 on the tutorial though. 2up riding is very different. Braking takes a bit longer, turning is different due to the extra weight..... Title: Re: 2up on a 620 question Post by: mstevens on June 25, 2010, 11:08:42 AM the 620 isn't adjustable Rear spring preload certainly is. Title: Re: 2up on a 620 question Post by: the_Journeyman on June 25, 2010, 12:33:41 PM Yup, turn the rear preload up. My wife and I together aren't light and we do fine on my M750.

We went for a little cruise around the area and to the coffee shop, I think she had fun but it wasn't very comfortable for her. I was fine with the 2up thing so long as she was holding on tight, overall we'd do it again no problem, if I were to go further out than my neighborhood I'd probably mess with the pre-load but for putting around it seemed fine... thanks for the tips, we both read everything and it was helpful. Yeah, my GF feels the same way. She's cool if we're just going somewhere quick but anything longer than 30 minutes and she's ready to get off. She's 5'8 and the passenger pegs are just way too high for her to be on long runs. Guess that's why she wants her own!!
