Title: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: slower than... on June 25, 2010, 03:23:05 PM For anyone that has one of these, can you please tell me if it is more or less comfortable for a passenger than the stock seat?
thanks. Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: DucNaked on June 25, 2010, 05:24:50 PM My wife says it's a little less comfortable than the stock because it's firmer. That being said, on the stock seat we only did short little rides around town. On the low seat we've done a couple of 2hr rides and she hasn't complained. I like it because I'm not the tallest guy around and it lowers ride hight. And it doesn't smash my nuts like the stock one.
Hope this helps. Oh, it looks cooler than the comfort seat too. [thumbsup] Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: theprocess on June 27, 2010, 08:00:21 AM Is the seat made of a more "grippy" material than stock (primary seat, not passenger part)? Looking to reduce the sliding forward on hard braking to save my boys.
Also, would you mind posting pics of the low seat mounted on your bike? Thx Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: DucNaked on June 27, 2010, 10:26:32 AM Yes its more grippy. The seating position changes, your kind of sitting lower and in the bike more if that makes seance. I'm not smashing against the tank anymore.

Low seat is now on my list (long list) of things to do. I never even knew it existed as its not in the DP catalog my dealer gave me. Btw your bike looks nice with all the subtle touches you added [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

But hey Definitely worth it, the bike is much more user friendly now... Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: Raux on June 27, 2010, 12:01:25 PM Yes its more grippy. Can you post a close up shot of the seat? I'd like to get a look at the materials used. Is it like a faux suede or textured leather? Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: M1100 on June 29, 2010, 06:28:07 AM I'd like to see it also. I am 5'8" with 32" inseam, so I think I could use either seat. Just want to save the boys, but the lower seat looks good (kind of raises the bars by lowering the seat)...
Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: SRT10Venomous on June 29, 2010, 08:00:40 AM Its like a faux suede and it really sticks to your jeans.. Seat is much flatter and well worth the money, makes the whole experience 100% better

Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: theprocess on June 29, 2010, 10:14:35 AM Awesome, thats exactly what I wanted to hear. Ordered one! Any issues with fitting the seat cowl/cover on the low seat? I would assume its a perfect fit being a DP accessory.

The one thing I forgot to mention, is that the main part of the seat absorbs water like a sponge. It takes a long time to dry out. Any issues with fitting the seat cowl/cover on the low seat? I would assume its a perfect fit being a DP accessory. It fits well the only issue is when the rear cover is on the seat, The cover on the front corners does not fit 100% tight to the seat, As this seat is also a bit narrower so you can see a 1/4 in gap between the seat and the tip of the cover. Not a big deal hardly noticeable. Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: Chris, desmoworld on June 29, 2010, 01:50:45 PM hey guys ,

The one thing I forgot to mention, is that the main part of the seat absorbs water like a sponge. It takes a long time to dry out. Great comparison pics, thx. The gap isnt that bad, I was expecting it to be across the entire seat not but the 2 edges, no biggy. Low seat looks great! Ever consider scotchguarding (or some other protector/water repellent) the seat to deal with the water absorption. Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: Raux on June 29, 2010, 07:03:01 PM Chris, to answer your question, yes you put the bolt and spacer on when the cover is not on. there is a stock black plastic spacer for this when not using the cowl.

The stock seat is tapered at the sides, the low seat does not taper at all which makes it feel wider. With the low seat, theres a noticable (to me anyway) rub on the inner thigh and no real difference standing over the bike probably due to the wider stance. 20mm drop appears to be mostly from the centre of the seat.
In any case it looks great...Im even considering leaving the seat cowl off. The materials feel great and the main part of the seat is super grippy. Best of all the boys aren't crammed anymore [thumbsup] Title: Re: 696/1100 Low Seat Post by: theprocess on July 18, 2010, 05:09:33 PM I can confirm that the low seat soaks up water like a sponge (main seat part). No water resistance at all but dries pretty quickly if you use a towel to press out some of the water. Gave it 2 coats of Scotchgard Auto which didnt change the color (maybe slightly darker) or texture of the material. Helps repel water but I doubt it can withstand a heavy soaking.
Another benefit of the lower seating position I found was much less pressure on the wrists. [thumbsup] |
