After two delivery attempts by Fed Ex, I got my bars today and put them on tonight.

2nd picture is a little dark but I'm tired and didn't feel like taking another one.


Forgot to say a couple things

1- forgot to say I took this opportunity to clean up the controls a little with my new mirrors and clean up the gaps between the grips and the bar ends.  Thus, I ground off the nubs on the throttle and switches to accomodate different mounting locations.

2- the pre-drilled holes in the SM bar are frigging useless.  I'm not sure what template they use to drill those but I think they've got it wrong.  That, or the controls on 2004 620's are far different than any bike that uses an M1 handlebar.

the second one I tilted so I could fill the picture with the controls and still be at my head position.  Note, these were taken just sitting on the saddle, not in a riding position.

So what did you accomplish?

Slightly more forward, more sweptback, both?

the biggest difference I noticed was the downward angle of the grips is much more comfortable for me.  It wasn't a huge change as you can see, but it was enough for me to immediately notice.

Obviously they're lower, from the picture.  But I was mostly looking for a more comfortable position.  I don't know if it's the angle or the sweep or the height or a combination of all three, but it works for me. 

I bought them kind of blindly and wasn't sure how it would turn out.

I'm considering bars like that as well. If you don't mind my asking, how much clearance do you have over your fork adjusters? How far do your fork adjusters protrude over the top triple? I'm considering an SBK fork conversion. I don't really want clipons, I want the SM bars. They just look more trick to me. However with the SBK forks, to achieve the correct geometry I will have quite a bit of protrusion above the top triple, and I'm just trying to figure out if I'll have the clearance or not.

I've discounted the suburban machinery bars as a non-starter for my 998 sbk fork conversion.  While they'll clear the preload adjuster (just), there's no way they'll clear the main body of the fork, which is 23mm longer than my stock forks.  So I'd have to either drop the forks through the triples 15+mm to get it all to clear, or else run the suburban machinery bars on bar risers, which sorta defeats the purpose.

Privateer, could you estimate how much you could drop your triples down the forks before they hit the bars?

One thing I've noticed is the stock S2R800 top triple I just acquired does not have a flat top surface. It dips down to either side of the steering nut. I believe this will just keep me from having to buy clipons. I will likely be tight but doable. However I may be very wrong on this.



Doh I am wrong, the triple on the bike is the same, lowers to either side of the steering nut. However, the risers on the Magura bar triple look nominally higher than the Dark triple that's on there right now. Hopefully this will work to my advantage.
