Haven't heard much talk in these parts about the RoadLok disk-lock option.  While a disk-lock is a rather boring accessory for discussion, it's quite well made and I figure I'd post a picture of it installed in case anyone is looking for something like it:

It mounts to the caliper and has two holes, one for a key, and the other for a removable pin.  When the pin is locked in place it goes through one of the holes drilled into the rotor and locks the wheel from turning in any direction -- no more slamming the disk lock into your caliper when you try to ride off without removing it.  When you're ready to go you just pop in the key, turn it, and the pin pops out for your pocket till you're ready to lock it again.  The key has "1 million different possible combinations" so they come with serial codes you register with RoadLok so they can make you replacements if you lose yours.  A hell of a lot more secure than the tumble lock that can be defeated with the back of a bik pen.  

It's not exactly cheap, but with the AMA 15% discount it's in the realm of competitiveness ~$250.  

Now I just gotta replace that "RoadLok" tag with one that says "Remove Before Flight"  [thumbsup]

For us it's the XRA-307, and it comes with different spacers and bolts so it should work regardless of your caliper.

looks awesome. i know they were starting to build disclocks INTO the brake calipers and it looks like this but is a 1 piece cnc billet.

Ride Update:

It doesn't impede movement of the wheel/rotor in any way.  And I'm honest when I say it's really well made.  They also include a dust plug for when you don't have the lock pin in and you're riding -- probably not completely necessary, but why not?

Occasionally when the pin is locked into one of the holes in the rotor, it doesn't pop out without moving the bike a bit... I can see this getting rather annoying.  BUT you can still lock the pin in place without it going through the rotor, and if someone tries to move your bike it'll slot into the hole and they won't get very far.  So I'll probably do this regularly.

Yeah they've done that for Harley's, Yamaha's, Kawasaki's, and custom choppers (OCC uses them), but I think there'd be too much complaint about having to replace our nice Brembos so I prefer it this way.   Technically you could get it and the wheel off if it was locked still, but you could do that with a locking caliper too... if they want it that bad they're going to get it I suppose.

I've always seen it as, if you can still pick it up and throw it in a van there is little point.

Still could very well happen as you say.  I ride and park on the street in NYC so I want to put on as many deterrents as possible.  I don't park in overly populated areas like mid-town.  And I've got a Scorpio 2-way alarm, always a disk lock, and the blinky lights on the dash.  My major down fall is not carrying around a gigantic chain and lock.  I never leave the bike parked in one place for more than 24 hours so the chance of someone putting it in a truck is slim (still there, but slim).  If it existed I'd be spending money on some car-backing-into-bike-knocking-it-over deterrent device... that's a larger concern in NYC than theft, for Ducati's anyway.

Wow - if I felt the slightest need for security beyond my ignition lock, I'd definitely consider one of these.

how much unsprung weight is being added and does it affect things being only on one side?

I didn't weigh it.  Easily under 1/2lbs.  I'm sure it's marginally easier to make a right turn now, but other than that I don't notice it's there.

Some Monsters only have one front brake caliper and disc. I can't imagine this thingamabob has more asymmetrical weight than that.

Looks like a well made product.
I think that is better than a traditional disc lock that can create a lot of damage if left on.

I think we will bring in a few of them to try out.
