I'll be ordering an ECU soon (hopefully tomorrow). As of right now, the plan is to just have the rev limiter disabled but thought id post this question.
Whats a good Rev limit to go along with a full arrow system and beast-r intake on an 07 S2R1K.
Im not a fan of how harsh the limiter suddenly engages. I read somewhere that the DP ECU raises the limit by 1k or so.
Honestly, I think I will be ok with it disabled, but wanted to get a second (third, fourth, fifth) opinion.

I think you don't need a limiter
When you make to much revs you get less power and you will shift
When you get above 9500 most of the umpf is gone
The only time you may need the rev limiter is if you miss a shift under wide open throttle, and the raised limit should still keep the engine from popping.
The rev limiter is there to protect your engine. I would not remove it.
the rev limit is there to prevent serious engine damage, but i doubt engine damage occurs at a rev range that youd be riding at , you would of changed gears already by the time you hit 10,000 rpm and noticed ur not getting anywhere.
Isnt the desmo design suppose to take high revs really well anyway? Old carbed monsters never even had rev limits. i could get that thing to bang up to 10k if i wanted to, but theres no point the bike would litterally be slower because its make shit for power.

The DP ecu does not eliminate the rev limiter, it increases the red line. I think one could safely assume Ducati finds the increased RPM a safe limit. By the way, carbie Monsters had no rev limiter and did just fine.

Im getting my full system ECU from Houston Superbikes (formerly desmoporsche). Bobby is going to remove the immobilizer and rev limiter for me. He could set the limit to whatever i want but im just getting rid of it all together.

That or a freak accident pulls the throttle cable wide open. But thats what the big red switch is for. [thumbsup] Im not worried about reving too high while riding. My concern is if the bike were to malfunction and decide to go wide open in neutral or something.
I also didn't want to set a limit and then find out i set it too low. Nothing like expecting to up-shift and BAM, limiter time!
Anyway, i am confident i will not have any issues.
I'm confident the upside of having no rev limiter is essentially zero and the downside is potentially large. I've never run into an occasion where having a rev limiter effected me in any real way but I've run into plenty where it helped. And yeah, I used to race, I do track days blah blah.
But hey, it's your bike.
Still, you get zero sympathy from me if you happen to blow it up. I will, in fact, virtually point at you and say "dumbass" if you break your motor
My advice, if you really want more, is to set it to 9.5K or 10K if you dare. Beyond that thar be monsters (and thrown rods and bent valves and etc.)

Pretty much the case with any 2V injected Duc.
i have a chart on my other computer i will try to get tomorrow. it shows the safe limit of the con-rods as far as rev. i think the 1000 had something like a @10300 limit. after that the con-rods can cause issues with valve contact, or at least i think that's the reasoning. it was based on some info Bruce Myers have given me to work with.
it was a pretty solid chart and jived with his race motors as well.

I set my shift light on my carbed Monster for 8000rpm. Redline is 'quoted' at 9000rpm.
I figure I would shift at 8500rpm with my slowing reflexes!
Anyway, I reckon you make better progress through the twisties running a gear higher and using the torque. People gotta understand that there's such things as conrod stretch and piston speed friction. Those of us who have seen the aftermath of seized pistons and thrown rods want a margin that's for sure.
I am thankful my race bikes have had rev limiters, even raised ones.
I called this morning and requested it be set to 9.5K. Thanks for the input everyone!
ok found the chart. 10700 is the magic number.

I bounced my motor off the rev limiter a few months back and I was a tad nervous as my digital tach (or I should say the "max" value stored in my analog tach) said 10023
Nice to know I had a bit of a safety cushion. Although not nice to know the stock rev limiter didn't kick in until then.

My carbed 900 is the same big...
that's why I added the 'injected'.
I was informed long ago that all I'd be making over 8K is noise. ;)
