I'm coring some s2r pipes and as of right now I've pretty much hollowed out the mufflers.  I've cut the inner tubing down to where the bolt holes are so the inner tube is probably 5 inches long now or so.  My question is can I just put it back together without the rest of the tubing or will it run hot enough to mess up the aluminum sleeve?  I can take pictures if I need to so if you need more info just let me know thanks.

To core them properly you should run a perforated tube the entire length of the pipe and wrap/pack that with exhaust packing.
At that point you will have the same can as pretty much every aftermarket exhaust.

Does anyone have an idea what to use for the perforated pipe? All I can think of is a stick of EMT and a lot of drilling.

If you do a search for perforated tubing on the web you will find companies selling it by the foot.

Yeah I didn't know if the perforated tube was necessary so thats why I asked.  I'd rather find out now then see the aluminum sheath overheat while riding ha.

So not to miss-lead you I do not think that the aluminum will have a problem with an open (un baffled) can. The bike will benefit from having packing.

So will your wallet from the muffler tickets you won't get with packing and preforated tubes. With out preforated tubes you have a straight pipe. I have been known to run megaphones in place of DP carbon cans. Stupid loud.
