The competition?
I have some experience with the Kindle but anyone have input on which device is better between that and I believe its call the nook?
iPad will play books from both. Pretty decently so far.
Didn't consider ipad. I should look into that. Anniversary/bday is coming up. The s/o has been looking at these.
I got my wife the Nook from Barnes & Nobles. She loves it. If I'm not mistaken, they just dropped the price to $150 or so.
I've not bought one yet, but I checked out a Nook at the local store and like it. The form factor is nice, with a clear readable screen and nice size and weight.
At $150 I may get one just to use for casual reading and only buy books from authors I really admire.
My sister has the kindle. She said, if she had to do it all over, she would buy the Nook. I guess you can lend "books" to friends for two weeks at a time, plus some other stuff I dont remember...
My wife went a different route on the decision to get the I-Pad over the other too. I swear, she researched it for almost 3 weeks and bought it for herself after her promotion at work as a hard work gift.
First of all, she reads a lot and loves older books, either it be about our countries founding or just your general "classics" that about all of us read if you went to high school.
They are all free on the i-pad. They have a pretty big selection. So you can delete off your machine when done and get it again if you want.
I believe the kindle and nook have a very limited and short list of free books.
It's a big price difference that will take time to realize a gain, but she also has become an Apple whore (she would be if Sprint had the I-Phone, but she has a HTC EVO which is about the same) so she is always dicking around on it and now is playing on line scrabble with my sister in law on her i-phone.
It's pretty funny.
So my long winded threadjack response says get the I-Pad, but not with the AT&T Cellular Internet Service one. AT&T's data cards for computers suck shit, so I can't imagine it would be any better in that skinny contraption.
Make sure to get a nice case for it, kind of like the jacket to a book. Also, that clear scratch resistant film you put on the screen so it doesn't get scratched and protects it a little more.
Thanks for the info!
U can jail brake your iPhone and download mywi from cydia and vuala, Internet - if you chose the Ipad [thumbsup]
I decided to go with the 3G WiFi Nook.
The s/o loves it!

Thanks for all the feedback & opinions.
Since I bought the s/o the Nook last month, she hasn't gone a day without reading at least 3-4 hours.
She's downloaded more than 500 books so far and there's still room for 1000 more. She can put her textbooks on it too if they're available. Pretty cool!
Damn I wish that was around when I was in school........why do I keep saying that??
Believe me...I know what you mean!
