That made me cry. He was the sweetest little puggle. He greeted my Frenchie and at the dog park with what seemed to be a big smile and followed me around as made the rounds with Emma. His owner let me pick him up and he wouldn't stop giving me "kisses". He smile on face an we hung out together for about 45 min. Before it got too hot!

So the owner and I are talking and she tells me she used to work out on the reservation sba that's where she rescued this little guy. I noticed he was a bit battered looking so I asked what happened to him. She caught the kids out there setting this dog on fire after they stabbed it, threw it off a couple bldgs.

And he still loves everyone!

Sometimes you can't beat down a good spirit, what a good little dog and those that did such a thing hopefully will get special treatment at some point in existence.

Poor little thing...  I am glad that he has found a loving home.

I hope they did the same to those kids.

What a strong spirit!!

My girlfriend's sister runs a rescue for dogs with special needs.  Dogs in the shelters that are sick, injured, etc.  She gets them fixed up then places them in loving homes.  Some of these dogs have gone through terrible abuse, yet nearly all of them become excellent companions.  People can truly suck.

but the human mind really doesn't develop until you are much older than a 12 year old. Lots of studies and reading on the subject of the psychology of the human brain development verse knowing what is right from wrong.

Of course the parents should instill that in their minds, but we all know that seems to be a thing of the past.

I work with dogs and I love it. If I ever catch someone abusing an animal they will go to jail if I get my way.

I clearly remember right and wrong way before 12
Not arguing with the research just offering my 2 cents

I did as well, but not everyone does.

One of our family pets was a German Shepard while I was growing up.  We didn't know she had been beaten when we got her, but it didn't take too long to figure it out.  I picked up a stick to teach her to play fetch and she ran and hid.  Took quite a while to get her out of the garage.

End result, she turned into the best family pet we ever had.  Her favorite game was to tear sticks to pieces.  Didn't matter how big, she would carry them around and chew them to bits.  I guess it was her little way of exacting revenge.

We got her in Haiti from a Haitian.  The only sign of her abuse after a few months was her deep racisim...  Till the day she died, she hated black people, I am assuming because of the beatings.  We tried everything to get her used to blacks, but finally just kept her away from them.  She did make a good guard dog in Haiti though!

What you do to any of my creatures, you do unto me.

I didn't really know what to say without writing a small book so I didn't post anything on this for a while...

I have a mastiff with a similar background who made it back from "write-off"...

not a lot gets into my heart these days

but seeing an animal get abused for amusement or out of sheer neglect is always a wrong button to push in me.

How's your pooch doing? Last you wrote I believe the big buy was starting to become a bit territorial about his new home, letting out a few tentative woofs at the mailman and such.

When we got our great dane (a rescue) he would only approach us with his head bowed very low. And his skin would twitch whenever we would pet him. Somebody had been smacking that dog on the nose for a good long while. Poor guy. He's sweet as can be. He has become much more confident in the six months we've had him. Now instead of loping pensively down the back hill when we call him in he runs toward us because, hey, there are treats or pets down there! Can't bring myself to train him to not charge the door like that, he just gets so damn happy.

Our Leonberger was rescued from a kill shelter by the large dog rescue we got him from. He was severely neglected and likely abused. The rescue got him the day before he was to be killed. He had pnuemonia and various cuts and sores, matted fur, etc. He weighed less that 40 lbs. He should have weighed 80+. He is a great dog. Took us 4 months before we could get him to play with a toy. He was afraid to put his mouth on anything. Now he acts like the silly puppy he is. Just don't mess with my wife, he is VERY protective.   [laugh]

Is there supposed to be a picture somewhere in this thread?

I figured it'd be blocked at work, but I have checked at home and still no picture.

He is doing great...I am glad yours have worked out so well

Najee will greet people now and his warm-up time with guests varies between instant to a few minutes, he takes his queues from us and his buddy Ella...but he knows she thinks she is running for public office and her judgement is not to be banked upon too heavily.

His personality has emerged and he is quite a character with a good sense of humor with his buddy Ella.... he will walk over and simply sit on her when he wants to rough-house..........and he plays my wife and me like a cheap fiddle

He will still initially skin-flinch at times to the touch when he is resting but he is much better...he must have been kicked or beaten a lot around the shoulders as that seems to be the one area that triggers a localized flinch....he does not retreat or move though...he stays for the contact despite his organic reflex to it

he crawls up on the bed between my wife and I at night and he loves when I just hold his presented paw..... he stares at us and exhales in a way that makes his lip flutter like a horse or Curly from the 3 Stooges

he knows he is safe and that he is loved...he makes me laugh out loud just being who he is

here is a 99 degree day shot of the earless wonder
