Title: removing paint marks from frame/suspension
Post by: sexonwheels on July 04, 2010, 07:46:44 AM
Im just wondering how to remove all the little paint marks on the frame and bolts that the factory puts on to indicate that the bolts have been torqued prior to it leaving the factory......they look like shit. I want to make sure that what ever i use doesn't ruin the finish on the frame.............any suggestions? i have tried brakes clean and a light solvent but that doesn't take it off

Unfortunatley anything that removes paint removes paint. If it removes the marks, it will remove the paint on the frame. Better to paint over the marks. I would wire brush the bolt heads.

I've noticed that paint comes off fairly easily, not trying to take it off but when wrenching.  I'm sure there is something that would take off the marking paint but not the frame coat.

i'm not really sure it's normal paint. have you tried just rubbing it off with say a rubbing compound?

If I'm not mistaken it's just a marking paint.

The frame paint is an activated product or powder, both of which are solvent resistant.

I'd use a little acetone.

Might denatured alcohol work?  I don't know if it would remove the paint marker but it shouldn't hurt the regular paint.  I've thought of doing this myself since all the little dots do look a little ugly.

Simple green took mine off.. The paint on the frame appears to be more robust than that on the plastic panels/tank.

Used a thicker shop towel and simple green, let the liquid sit for a few minutes and it comes right off.

stuff comes off easily, goes away if left in the rain a few times.

i just scratch it off with a fingernail when i notice.. takes a couple scratches, but normally flakes off.
