Title: DP LED tach wiring
Post by: Düb Lüv on July 04, 2010, 02:09:08 PM
i bought it cheap and it works, but it doesn't have the connectors. i messed with the wiring and got a couple readouts, but haven't tried wiring it in. out of the bottom of the tach there's a red, green, and blue wire. then there's a separate red wire that comes out of the front.

I have no first hand experience, but I'd wager that red goes to +12V, green to ground, and blue to either the hall sensor or the LT side of one of the coils.

The separate red wire is likely for illumination.

when i hooked the separate red wire to a power source, it gave the tach a low rpm reading. and the illumination light lit up. i worried about guessing where the wires go on the ICU. i don't want to damage the tach.

so i wired the 2 red together and green on the black and blue on grey. i'm attaching these to the right 3 wire ignition module connector.

the tach sweeps and when i start the bike it read 4500-5000 rpm at idle and doesn't really move on revs.

what am i doing wrong

i found this video months ago.
tachometer for ducati monster 900 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7RaEKlU-eY#normal)

it's strange. the tach in the video has blue light and red in the redline area. mine has red light all the way across. is this something out of the ordinary?

I can't say about the 2nd red wire, but the other wires should be:

red= 12V +
Blue= 12V -
Green= tach signal from either ignition box.  (grey or green wire depending on which box you tie into)

I love those tachs.
Had one on my first Monster. Should have taken it off when I sold it.
Regret..
