Title: my problem, and my dumb questions about engines
Post by: acemoney on July 07, 2010, 08:58:00 PM
first things first, my motorcycle knowledge and mechanic skills are quite vauge.

long story short, i have a 06' monster 620 and my engine blew up one day (or so i call it). my engine got SUPER loud, clanking and clunking metal inside, horsepower gone, bad enough i knew something bad happened. drove it home like 10 miles and pretty much said oh well i might as well take it apart. upon taking it apart i found broken and shaved connecting rod bearings, ground down crankshalf, and bad rods.

questions:

can i just buy a used engine, hook it up the same way my old one was hooked up, and "BAM" it's works like a charm? or is it not that simple and need to reconfigure the ECU or some other things?

what, if any, engines fit/and or will work with my bike?

would a novice person like myself be able to put an engine back together with new parts and a manual? is that even worth it?

thanks in advance!

easiest option

find used 620 engine and bolt it in.

no changes needed to any electronics.

any other motors wil necessitate new engine electronics or possibly other electronics. (no directly bolting in a 900 or 1000ds motor, you will need other components than the motor itself)

AFAIK a 620 is a 620. *should* be plug n play with you existing ECU and parts.
