Title: motodynamic integrated tail light woes
Post by: pitbull on July 08, 2010, 07:31:57 AM
So I bought 2 motodynamic integrated tail lights for my 2001 900 and my GF's 2000 900.

The units both work great......................... on her bike.

The flashers don't work on my bike, although the tail light does. At first I thought it was the unit, so I put it on the GF's bike and it works great.

I had a spair tail light harness kicking around so I swapped it out as the original one was pretty beat up. Still no worky.
I checked fuses, unhooked and rehooked things up and no dice.

Any suggestions on where to go from here, would be appreciated. I understand electronics about as well I understand quantum physics, so please speak slowly, if you have a suggestion.

As for the motodynamic unit itself............it's really bright and a friend I ride with frequently says it's much brighter than the stock tail light and signals and the aftrmarket oxford LED signals I was running for the last couple months.

Did you check for power going to the harness? I know you said you checked fuses but the issue could be up before the fuse. If both units work then the issue has to be power related. Is the wiring correct? I know its pretty simple but one crossed wire and LEDs tend to just sit there and do nothing! I would say get out the multimeter and check your power connections.

unconnected and reconnected a few times.

and to confuse me further,I just went out and rehooked up the stock signals and oxford signals they both work fine........but no go on the motodynamic unit........but it works on the GF's bike. I'm now completely stumped

so in the istructions it says if you have aftermarket front LED signals, you must have a resistor........I do and I do have the resistor. However, my GF's bike has stock front signals. So, I quickly switched my front signals to stock to see if it made a difference. It did for a split second......... the rear integrated signal worked for second and then died.

any thoughts?

sitting in the garage, with no idea what to do, I thought......"let's pull the switch apart and see what it looks like in there". It looked fine, ( a little dirty)  although I've never pulled it apart before to know the difference. I cleaned it up and put it back together and now the signals work. The blink rate is not as fast the other bike, but seems reasonable. I'm thinking maybe tomorrow I'll pull the switch apart again and clean it some more.

I like magic.

I needed an LED specific relay for my intergrated tail light & signals to work, however I needed to pull the flashing indicator bulb in the speedo cluster, for some reason with that in place it shorts out the signals and both left & right would flash at the same time.  Not sure how to sort that issue out.
