Title: Switching master cylinders?
Post by: The Bearded Duc on July 10, 2010, 12:24:38 PM
If I were looking to switch my front brake master cylinder from the coffin style to the "pee-cup" style what does it entail? Is it as simple as bolt up, bleed, ride or are there more intricacies?

If it is that simple, are there compatibility issues? Should I be looking for something from a particular bike?

I have an '01 750

you have to look at the brake switch as well.  and mirror mounts if you're using them.

Going coffins to goldlines (pee cups) is pretty straight forward.

Bolt on, bleed, adjust if necessary, and go.

As previously mentioned, you'll NEED the switches.

What about the switch am I looking for?

For instance, this one looks to have the same type of wiring for the switch as my OEM does. Is that what you're talking about?

I bought a brand new gold line brake master from yoyodyne which included the lever and switch - and it was cheaper than the ebay auction you linked. Better way to go, IMO.

You'll need the reservoirs and the "erector set" reservoir holders and the mounting screws, but I'd buy new masters from yoyodyne and go from there.

Just checked the Yoyodyne website, may go that route. Thought it might be a point and shoot kind of thing then I see this whole ?mm bore thing. How do I know which one to order? I don't know what size my OEM masters are.
