Title: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: cakeman on July 10, 2010, 08:52:45 PM Im tossing up whether to get rid of my windshield all together or if there are any other alternatives.
What are your thoughts....... Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: Monstar_100 on July 10, 2010, 09:00:29 PM im working out weather i want one or not...
I thinks it comes down to the color as to if it will suit... as silly as that sounds Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: heatherp on July 10, 2010, 09:01:38 PM Take it off and go for a ride to see whether you turn into a wind sock or not. Depending on your height the windshield may or may not be keeping a lot of wind off your chest, head and neck. A bit of turbulence shouldn't be a problem on short rides but on long rides it wouldn't be nice for your wrists and neck. It's surprising what difference a little screen can make.
Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: cakeman on July 10, 2010, 09:04:37 PM I'm talking about the stock windshield. Not sure if it's a keeper, however Ian of the opinion the speedo and tacho exposed isn't to hot either
Decisions decisions Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: dragonworld. on July 10, 2010, 09:06:44 PM Even the smaller screens can channel the airstream upwards and take the full blast of the air over you to some extent and take the pressure off your arms/body. ;D
Makes a difference if you do highway/freeway work regularly. Also parking the bike in a certain direction, the screen can be used to shield the instruments from the hot summer sun! [thumbsup] I personally like the small screen and the way it tidies up the front without the full fairing overkill! ;D And like our chosen bikes, its a personal choice really. [clap] Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: cakeman on July 10, 2010, 09:15:18 PM I wasn't aware there is a small screen option. Where can you get these ?

I think he was meaning the stock screen (it's small). I have heard that some actually prefer without the screen as they feel it actually directs all the wind blast specifically onto the chest or head ... whereas without everything cops it but to a lesser degree. Some models (or most in the earlier days ???) didn't come with the screen, at least not as standard ... so there must be quite a few instrument clusters out there being exposed. But there are heaps of truly naked monsters around. And they look just as good without the windshield/fairing. IMHO Check out the "Show us your ride" thread for ideas http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=1061.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=1061.0) Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: dragonworld. on July 11, 2010, 02:06:29 AM I guess if extra protection was needed retrofitting the older pre2000 style could be done?! :P
At least it would still be a Duc fairing!! [roll] Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: Two dogs on July 11, 2010, 11:35:00 AM Cakeman there is the "flyscreen" whch I use now
I have had it on for almost a year but still cant decide if I like the look My personal favorite is without screen and lowered light/clocks That mod may come one day so would have to ditch the screen I purchased mine from monsterparts.com German made and not cheap. It has made a slight improvement on fast long distance wind effect (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff57/ohana181/P1170574.jpg) Title: Re: Pros & Cons of Windshield Post by: suzyj on July 11, 2010, 11:50:50 AM Isn't a windshield one of the first signs of the beemer sickness?

Bellypan was a fleabay cheapy It came from carbondude1 I watched for ages until one came up as bid starting at a low price and scored it really cheap. I have read that his quality is not good but this one seems fine still glossy, fit was good been on for two years . I also purchased a seat cowl from him and it too is okay. Just checked him on ebay and ouch price has gone way up I payed $80 for mine check his site here Wait and watch for a cheap listing http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/carbon-bikes__W0QQ_armrsZ1 (http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/carbon-bikes__W0QQ_armrsZ1) |
