Title: Engine Light & Immoboliser Light coming On Post by: cakeman on July 12, 2010, 04:44:38 PM Hi guys, i thought id take my S4R out for its first decent ride today. I was going to do Galston Gourge uo the northern road to Wisemans Ferry and back down the pacific hwy.
Unfortunately, the the road through Galston Gourge is closed and i had no idea how to get on to the Northern Rd instead. I pulled over to have a look at the iphone maps (which is useless), turned the engine off and was looking for an alternate route. When i went to restart the bike (key was from off to on), the needles did there usual thing but the engine light came on and the immoboliser light was orange, wouldnt let me start. I switched it off and on again and it worked fine and started up as normal. This happened on 2 occassions when i pulled over. Is this normal, or should i be slightly concerned? Cheers A Title: Re: Engine Light & Immoboliser Light coming On Post by: vossy on July 12, 2010, 05:18:51 PM firstly no it is not normal
and secondly yes be slightly concerned. if you have a VDST you can always check what error code/s have come up otherwise it might be a visit to your mechanic to have it checked out. I'm sure someone will chime in with a better solution. Sometimes this slips down from sitting snug up at the top. Undo the nuts that hold it in place and check the connection and that is still tight up the top in place. Usually a little electrical tape can help to hold it in place. If that is not what it is then you might need to start trouble shooting. To me it sounds like a common-ish little niggle. Title: Re: Engine Light & Immoboliser Light coming On Post by: craigo on July 12, 2010, 06:06:53 PM FYI Alternative route from Pacific Hwy to Old Northern Road is via Berowra Waters: http://bit.ly/a9XqCg (http://bit.ly/a9XqCg)
A little nicer road than the gorge, plus you get to go on a sweet ferry. Title: Re: Engine Light & Immoboliser Light coming On Post by: vossy on July 12, 2010, 11:23:48 PM could it be something to do with the key.
I have been told that if your black key gets knocked about too much it could affect the starting system. (immobilizer not recognizing the key) try your other black key if you have it. It wouldn't hurt. Title: Re: Engine Light & Immoboliser Light coming On Post by: cakeman on July 13, 2010, 12:55:55 AM thanks for the input. I spoke to frasers and they pretty much said the same as you guys. they added, if i have anything electronic on the keyring it might have trouble picking up the key. Ive got a electronic entry tab for my place on the ring, so it might be contributing. All in all, not to much to worry about by the sounds of it. thanks again

Mine did the same from brand new, the key Aerial wasn't fitted properly as like Matty says here.Sometimes this slips down from sitting snug up at the top. Undo the nuts that hold it in place and check the connection and that is still tight up the top in place. Usually a little electrical tape can help to hold it in place. If that is not what it is then you might need to start trouble shooting. To me it sounds like a common-ish little niggle. Easy fix & has been perfect ever since. Thanks Matty [thumbsup] |
