Thoughts?
Looking to get one or the other, don't really care whether one has blu-ray or not.
TIA. [thumbsup]
I guess it would come down to title selection then.
Why do you not care if it has blue-ray. Blue-rays are amazing and I'm not even that much of a watch movies at home person.
kinda depends on what you are looking for. Both do Netflix now, both have similar specs on graphics. I think the PS3 might have better as far as gaming goes, but for whats out there now...similar. Yes, PS3 has bluray which is cool, but if you dont care then go with xbox. Keep in mind, if you do any online gaming, you will pay monthly for that, PS3 is free online, so eventually the cheaper xbox will cost more in the long run.
I have both... right now, the PS3 gets more game play.... but it is a title thing... I don't think the performance of either is a big enough difference.. the Halo games rock on the Xbox... and the Uncharted games were great on the PS3... if you could pick just one, I would look through the games and see which had more games you like... most games are available on both platforms, but there are a few key differences in game series that are proprietary to one system or another.
Like mentioned before, games will ultimately decide. Xbox Live is a better online experience, but you'll need to pay. PS is eventually moving to the pay model, they've already started with "premium" content. Performance is pretty much the same. Generally speaking I would say that Blu-ray always tipped the scale towards PS3 for the casual gamer. If you're going to play mostly online Xbox will give you the better, if not more expensive, experience.
Xbox
I know a couple hardcore gamers that own PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. When I was looking to buy a time-waster last winter, these guys unanimously recommended the Xbox.
I have not been disappointed. Hell, it's worth buying one for Forza Motorsports 3 alone....
been wondering the same.
we have an original xbox and i was wondering about continued use of our current titles on the 360?
anyone have experience with that?

its hit and miss...
I haven't played any games from the original Xbox on the 360. It simply does not have the same effect when you start seeing the better graphics and performance. I think the PS3 is finally catching up with the titles, so those hardcore gamers might start looking at it more closely.
PS3 gets my vote
my sister has one and my friends got an x-box
much prefer the games on the ps3 but mostly because i don't like halo

Well I was thinking that as I already have a blu-ray player, I wouldn't need another one. Does it have anything to do with the games being any better on the PS3?
Games are not any better or worse, but some are exclusive to each console. I got the Xbox for Halo while some prefer games like God of War. Also Forza and Grand Turismo fall into this category.
$300 for the console and $40-$60 per game.....
Don't get either, that's more money you could spend on the bike. [thumbsup]
Xbox for no other reason than Forza 3 is awesome. I know GTA 5 will be good when (if) it ever comes out, but still....
My two American centavos:
Since you are asking this question now, and not, say, three years ago, I am guessing that you are not what might be called a hardcore gamer. If you were, the 360 would be your console. If you wanted HD video playback, then the PS3 would be the way to go. It sounds like there are no features that you absolutely can't live without, so I don't think you can make a bad move.
I went with a PS3 because I wanted good media playback capabilities. I use PSMedia Server to stream video from my PC to the PS3 - this works great for me, and Blu-Ray completes the package. I like that the Playstation network is free, that I didn't have to buy a wireless dongle, and that the hard drive is easily swappable. The PS3 was great out of the box - I felt like I would be knickle and dimed to death getting the 360 upgraded to be more than just a gaming console.
What you may want to consider in addition to media server and existing titles is the new motion-based add-ons that are coming for both platforms. (http://www.pcworld.com/article/199305/kinect_for_xbox_360_vs_playstation_move.html)
Also, if you are an AV nut, the PS3 will probably support 3D movies in the near future. Which brings up another point - the PS3 is a great Blu-ray player, and one that can be updated. If your player can't, this may come into play some time in the future.
Just one thing to point out... the bluray can store more on a single disc than on the dvd-rom in a 360. As a point, Final fantasy was like 4 discs on the 360 and 1 on the ps3

Another good point. BTW, GT5 is due out is november and is slated to be one of the best driving games to every hit the media. Its also in 1080p which I dont think xbox can do. Someone correct me if Im wrong. As for pay for play, I havent heard that the PS3 is moving that way. When/where is that mentioned? That was a selling point for me and getting it for my kid.
xbox can do 1080P, but there are very few games that ever come out in that format natively.
I vote xbox only because online play is where its at. if you dont care about that, then PS3 is fine. I have both. Xbox gets used way more.
I'm sort of leaning toward the xbox, mainly because my nephew has one & I can borrow his games without buying them.
It's going to be something I go to when my wife is watching home decor shows & I'm too much of a soft cock to tell her to change the channel. :P I've given up asking as I'm sick of hearing 'NO!', 'I don't want to watch Top Gear!', 'I don't want to watch motorcycle racing' etc etc.
Ah, you gotta love 'em. :-*

This is old news, see link:

Basically they were talking about charging for "premium" content, like I mentioned on my original post. Multiplayer will continue to be free, but you get what you pay for. Xbox Live continues to be the better online experience.
Simply stated PS3 developers finally have a grasp of the hardware and are finally developing games to match it. Before I would have told you that Xbox games are better. You will find more good games on the Xbox, but the newer games for the PS3 are looking sick. The latest version of the Xbox has everything integrated and is Kinect ready.
Selling points for both are different, but you'll end up buying whatever your friends have since you'll want to play with them.
Oh yeah and make sure you get Ren and Stimpy on DVD [thumbsup]
