I'm in too. But you will need to be gentle, never done a track day before. I will definitely need some help in the lead up too.
[moto] = me too then.
It's alright Betty there will be plenty there to look after you.
sounds like a monster gathering, If you call up ECRD they may reserve you a garage , Just tell em your a club and there is 6 bikes, they should reserve a garage. [thumbsup]
Good idea.
Will call tomorrow.

No, In the current economic climate its been downgraded to a spot 2.3mtrs x 1mtr, Although it still has a view of the front straight [thumbsup] :'(
Looks like we got ourselves a Convoy!
AWESOME!
Ecster, Matty and Hambo, What group you in? I'm booked in the Medium. My poor little 750cc bike gets intimidated by those big noisy bikes :-[.
I'm in the green group.
mate ive done plenty of sbk courses but never a track day.........so will start in slow and see how big my heart is haha with that many ducati's we probably need a coffee machine.........was sick of the grey weather lately so gave myself a day off today and did the putty loop .....we must do that as a group some time its a great ride at whatever pace you choose ....no [leo] the whole day :) :)
I'm just a novice ;)
Medium for me.
Now I'm searching for a slightly 2nd hand rear tyre to use instead of running my Pilot Pure's which aren't on yet.

Why? The pilot Pures are a great tyre, my mate uses them on his CBR and has done 3 track days, still in very good nick.
I would put the best tyres I can on for the track ???
I've had another look at them (Pilot Pure's) and I think I'll give them a go.
I was only a little worried cause I have run Powers at E.C. before and they tend to heat up and feather somewhat.
They can also suffer from cold tears which Big T (:'( missed) did a good job of on his last set of new Pilot Powers.
Hey Matty I think you need to run lower tyre pressures when on the track.
yeah maybe so.
I was always at 28 cold.
I might need to start at 26 cold this time. Especially on new rubber.
i run front 31 hot and rear 28 hot.
Oh cool. I'll come along and take photographs :)

visited a trusted suspension guy the other day and usual track pressures are 30/30 but they have tried the PURES and not a track tyre as such but
still good none the less, but were using higher near street pressures with good results 34/36 as are a different rubber compound
He gave them a good wrap for colder weather on the road where say PP or Corsa's dont work so well
The Pure's are certainly not a track tyre compared to what I have now in the Supercorsa Pro's.
It will be a trial/error kinda thing I think to see what it feels like.
I did notice when I was riding Craigo's bike the other weekend that there is a decent amount of road noise
coming from them compared to Pilot Powers.
Pures do indeed sound like 4WD tyres compared to Powers.
Betty what you want for your old front end?

hey, what kind of mileage would you do on an average ride day if all your session took place without a need to cut it short due to blah, blah, blah?
20 mins a session usually.
Most people are riding 2:10 to 2:30
8-10 laps a session, 4k track or so.
200 klm's give or take.

just remember that Ducatis are rather pricey to repair

What bike you riding at the track Mark?
I'll be riding the new one ... well new to me.
Only 4 more sleeps!!! Hope the weather holds out for us.
I'm excited! [moto] The weather is gonna be fuggin awesome.
I know it has been discussed on the board elsewhere before ... but I'm gonna need some help/info.
As a track day virgin is there anything I need to do beforehand, etc, etc?
I will be riding down and I don't want to be pulling things apart and all that stuff, do they supply tape? Is there anything I need to know or anything you care to share?
I'll have a bag with me, which you're more than welcome to chuck blinkers and mirrors and stuff into. You can probably just pull the fuse for your lights so they don't bug people.
Ok Betty,
First of all don't rush; you are there for a full day. If you are not ready for the first session doesn't sweat do the next one
When you arrive you will find lots of information on the sheet given to you when you first enter.
You will then need to take your machine to be scrutinized.
Get your bike to the allocated garage and set it up (normally listed on the sheet) I will text Matty with the garage # on the morning.
Note:
If you are in the white group I suggest don't be late, make your way to registration first up as it gets busy and you may miss your first session.
This is how it goes during scrutinizing of your bike.
The look for oil around the forks.
Fluid leaks of any kind will not pass so if you have a small weeping one, wipe it before hand.
I may be doing the scrutinizing on the day, so I accept bribes such as eggs, chickens, fruit baskets prosciutto ,mortadella ,I think you get my drift .
Any exposed wear indicators and the tire will be knocked back.
Make sure your chain is tensioned correctly.
Make sure you have bar ends.
Make sure your brakes front and back have plenty of pads and the leaver doesn't feel spongy.
No gear sack racks unless you can remove the upper section and have the plugs or cross bar for the lower part .
No lap timers,No video cameras on the bike.
You can have your mirrors taped on the day by staff or remove them before hand.
Yes there is tape at the track.
Small note:
check you oil filter is tight as mine has come undone twice now in as many months, It's not a good felling as you go around turn 9 with oils on your rear tire.
Normally if you machine looks like a junker they will go over it with a fine tooth comb.
Your gear.
No short gloves they need to cover your leathers and they must be predominantley leather.
If you have a two piece suit it needs to be able to zip up at the back.
Full face helmet only.
Boots need to be proper riding boots .
I highly recommend that you listen carefully during the 9am briefing and take the first timer lap with Big All, he is the guru.
Follow All's lines and respect the information given to you during the briefing and you will have a great day.
Make sure you pay attention and understand the flags during your session as they are there for safety reasons. It's not hard, there are only 3... Red, Yellow and checkered.they will explain the meaning during the briefing.
Don't be scared to approach the staff if you have any questions you want find anyone more informed on track condition than them.
I will be in the monsters lair Sat so I'm happy to help you get started in the morning.
If you are using street tires set the pressure to 30 front and back, it's a good starting point .If you are riding to the track set them at the track, not beforehand.
Bring some fluids as it gets hot out there .bring some food as the food is [puke] out there.
Bring some bike cleaning stuff so if it rains you can polish my 1198.
Other than that it's just like a normal ride you would do on the open road with your buddies, but lots safer and way more fun.

[clap] haha, can you polish ghetto flat black and primer fairings? ;D
I normally get there at between 7-7:15. You might end up waiting around at the gate for a wee bit, but that way you aren't rushed when you get in and you can get setup and scrutineering done with with loads of time to spare. It's all actually fairly straight forward and nothing to be nervous about.
great run thru Doc ......only other thing is get julie to bring some folding chairs.....so you can sit down ....that cold cement gets hard after a while...... :)
Holly crap I think that is the most I have ever seen you type!
Do you have an RSI injury after that. [laugh] [laugh]
This is my list for a track day.
Leathers/Boots/Gloves
Socks x 2
Helmet x 2 (sweaty in summer) plus visors and cleaner.
Pump/Tyre gauge
Rear stand (carried by someone else)
Plate removal/taped
Paper work filled out beforehand
Lunch/Water/Jelly lollies
Small tools
Folding (as mentioned by Hambo)
Oh and don't forget everyone we have a garage booked in the name of Oz Monsters.
It is also a Ducati factory support day so the big red shiny truck will be out there.

Socks x 2
Sounds like you have been there before ... but didn't realise you had only brought one sock [cheeky]
Now I am stressed!
Ordered some track parts (for the MV) like Fairings, Headlight removal Kit, Mono Posto Subframe (to suit a single seat) about 4 weeks ago. Got the fairings but no subframe or headlight bracket yet. My bike is in about 2000 peices eagerly awaiting their arrival [bang]. I have been holding out waiting for the bits.
Looks like I am going to have to install all the original stuff again :'(. There are a couple of late nights ahead >:(.
I have only been to one & just remember ride within your abilities (or disabilities) There is no pressure to do anything.
Once you have done a couple of sessions it will click & you'll settle into a routine, just relax and enjoy !!
Oh and remember that you can never have too much power........It's only too much if you use it incorrectly.
Just in case anyone is interested, I have booked my bike in for suspension settings with these guys --> swracing.com.au (http://swracing.com.au) They are set up in one of the pit garages at ECR, it costs about $70 from memory. I had them do adjustment at the last track day and they found that the rear spring was too lite so I now have a new Shock and spring installed so I'll get them to dial the bike in for me. You get to have the adjustments done then ride it straight away, give feedback and have the changes made for you throughout the day. Its like having your own pit engineer ;)
I reckon its good value...
Remember everybody who is going tomorrow, we have a garage booked for the day.
not sure of the number as yet but it is likely to near the middle of the pit lane, close-ish to the
big red Ducati truck.
Vince is going to let me know the garage number in the morning if he can and I'll txt it out to people who are coming along
that is if I have your number. Otherwise just head for the 30's somewhere and look for the Oz Monsters sign on one of the
doors.
cheers
Matty...
i'm working in the morning but will see if i can make it out there for a visit ,maybe take some happy snaps
What a great day.
Besides a few woe's for Betty's new machine which turned out to be a bunch of bad connections.
Everyone had a flawless day day otherwise, except for Vince of course who spent more time pulling
his bike apart than riding it.

couldnt agree more a great day out .......great weather good company ...and turning corners on a ducati with no [leo]
thanks to all who came along and made the day............................
We start our story with our hero ready to depart on his big adventure.
A couple of laps in, our hero is spotted going unexpectedly slowly.
Round the next turn, our intrepid hero makes the decision that using feet might actually be faster.
After parking the bike some way from the track, in a vain attempt apparently to get away from the photographer, a period of counseling ensues. Our hero tries to convince his shiny new 999 to start. Apologies are forthcoming for any rough treatment. Even incantations to Marelli, the god of Italian electrics, fall on deaf ears.
A short while later, some nice young men with a van and trailer arrive to rescue our intrepid hero.
Our hero's trusty steed looks somewhat forlorn, coming back on the trailer.
Back in the pits, the priests of Marelli clearly know some more powerful incantations. It's rumoured that a virgin was requested, but this being ozmo, none were forthcoming, so jiggling connectors and replacing fuses had to suffice.
And the story ends with our hero back on his steed, tearing up the track, having sworn a vow to never offend Marelli by washing his bike again.

It certainly wasn't bad ;D... but I really enjoyed the trip home [evil] - less traffic than the track at that time of the day.
I would also like to extend my special thanks to my pit wench :-* and the 'Highpriests of Marelli'. I can highly recommend that if you are going to encounter electrical gremlins, a track day where the big red bus is there is the time to do it ;D.

I confess I was watching you pretty closely all day, 'cos I'm using you as the prototype for my upcoming first track day. Hey Betty I couldn't believe you had the energy to ride all the way home after a day at the track.
BTW if you didn't already know, there are pics of you at www.jpmphoto.com.au (//http://).

I ride like an old granny though (even at the track). The ride home was fun, stopped off for dinner at the Mt White Cafe.
My 'clutch' wrist was killing me by the time I got home. I am not sure what the problem is:
. I don't think I am hanging on too tight
. I don't think I am putting too much weight on the wrist ('throttle' wrist is fine)
. the clutch is not too heavy (although heavier than the Monster)
. the lever is adjusted all the way in
I don't know if it is just the ergonomics I am struggling with, the fact that I am unfamiliar with a sports bike posture, my girly little wrists, something else I am doing wrong or any combination of the above.
Probably just a lack of strength and dexterity ???

It's probably a combination of getting use to the riding position and a heavy clutch. I only rode at the track and my clutch hand was sore at the end of the day.
Are you coming to the next rideday on 18 Septmeber?

I know it is contributing I am just worried it is something anatomical. It is not actually my hand but my wrist ... only hurts when I activate the lever though worse when I have been off the bike for a while eg. after stopping for dinner.

The dude on the white S4RS? He was in the quick quick superfugginfast group. He wasn't an Ozmonster that I know of, but the way he rode he should join up :)
Personally I find bike photos are
hard to take.
I normally shoot like 500 shots and get about 20 that are reasonable - if I am lucky. Like these two characters:
(https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/4692752885_c68ceed61b.jpg) (https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4258699019_33eda65636.jpg)
sitting on Turn 3 just past the flag marshall best, cause you can actually get pretty close.
I don't really have a lens long enough to go shoot down into T2. They end up like this:
I find the following helps:
* Highest ISO (800+) you can go without ending up stupid noisy.
* lowest F Stop you can go
* Shortest exposure you can go without blowing out
* Tracking the bike as it passes
* Use the longest lens you can find (200mm minimum, preferably 300mm or 500mm)
* Plus you need to get there early in the morning so the light is on the right side of the bike.
This is all trial and error; I reckon I shot about 20 sessions before I started getting close to happy with the outcome.
yeh good tips
2 main probs i had
biggest was been a good couple or so years since i have been taking pics so fresh out of the box so to speak
had a polarised filter on which through 200mm + 2x tele doesnt work
took it off later and got a few good sharp shots but by then the day was done so to speak and as you say light was off , found in thge past sessions 2 and 3 work best and summer time
must find a monopod as well , arms get a bit sore after a while
Yeah the fella on the white S4RS..... he looks quick even in the photos! ;)
May I suggest-
Yes longest lens you have
Shoot at 100-200 iso better quality than 800 which usually equals low light
Shoot using the longest shutter speed you can i.e. 125th or lower
Pan using your waist not your arms it's a more fluid movement
Shoot somewhere between f/8-f/16 or one third stops
Just my thoughts.
Quote from: J5 on August 17, 2010, 12:07:33 AMmust find a monopod as well , arms get a bit sore after a while
Monopod is very useful - It steadies the whole thing without stopping you panning freely.
The vast majority of my shots are completely hopeless as well - I have a reasonably good, long lens (300mm f/4.5 nikon prime) which is quite sharp wide open, but it's manual focus, so tracking focus on fast moving bikes is, well, a challenge.
I had enough reach to get into turn two okay - my effective focal length is 450mm due to a smaller sensor. The settings that worked okay for me were f/8 or f/11, in order to maximise my depth of field, at ISO 400. This gave me around 1/300 second exposure, which was short enough to slow things down without being so short that it just freezes everything.
I basically did two "types" of shot - prefocussing on the ripple strip toward the end of turn two, and snapping bikes as they came into focus, for this sort of shot:
This one is pretty forgiving - the motion of the bikes are mainly towards me, so there's not a lot of blurring. But it's pretty boring.
The more frustrating shot (but better when it works) is to track the bikes as they exit turn two, trying to simultaneously pan with the bike and pull the focus back at the same time, so I get a more side-on shot. These are my favorites, but it's a really low percentage shot - I only got two or three of these all day that were worth having.

I reckon it's a learning exercise - I'm getting a little better each time.
Wow looks like u guys had a great day at EC. Sorry I missed it :'(
Another tip for the budding photographer ... lots of photos of the clown on the 999.
Its much easier to shoot an (almost) stationary object [laugh]
Had so much fun at the last ride day, would there be any

Tricolore is apparently paid up for November 6. This is a Ducati supported day, which as it turns out, actually does have some benefits ;)
I suspect that if you pick that day and give the odd, gentle, prod momentum and numbers may build ... I am sure there are a few others keen on a/another spin around the track.
Yeah, I am booked for the 6th, places have been filling prety quick so if your serious you should book in.
OK, Eastern creek calender page doesn't match the booking page,
6th of Nov is not there, might already be full.
