I was taking down the laundry from outside and felt a sharp poke/sting on the inside of my thumb from under the wad of clothes that was in my hand.  Figured it was just a random splinter or something, but it hurt much more than a splinter.  Instantly dropped the clothes on the ground--it was a load of whites of course--and ran inside to take a look.  I had a small red dot and minor swelling.  (what the heck??) Washed it really well with soap and warm water, sucked on it a bit (I'm not sure if that actually works to get poison out) washed it really well again--in case my BBQ sauce laden breath did more damage than good--and took an antihistamine right away.  Iced it for a while and it seems to be a bit better.  I can't find any evidence of a stinger and the red dot, which is now gone after 45 minutes, seems too big for a spider.  So what the heck did this?  I'm freaked out.  The clothes harboring my assailant are now in the dryer on high, even though they're already dry.  I'm going to see if I have a baked critter in there.)

As a side note, the laundry line seems to be a favorite breeding ground for small spiders, but I've never had an issue with them.  I don't see any hornets' nests on the line--I use it too much for them to set up camp.  Besides, it's nighttime... What's out on my line biting me at night?   

UPDATE:  No baked critter found in dryer.  Thumb still "pricks" a little every now and then.  No splinter. 

Sounds like a baby midget unicorn.  Mere mortals can't handle their rainbow power.  Its intensity causes pain.

my money is on it being a hypodermic needle ... or a piece of broken glass from a crack pipe  :o

you turds are super-helpful... my husband is out of town, so he wasn't the one doing the biting.  And my pool boy wasn't around at the time, so it wasn't him either.

I still have a red dot where whatever-it-was bit me.  My thumb has gotten more swollen and itchy and there's some sort of small bumps around it.  It's not fun.  Bet it's going to fall off!

since the bite, have you had any cravings for curry, and/or has your head started to uncontrollably move from side to side like a bobble-head, when you are talking?

I don't watch any Star Trek. I was trying to make an earwig/pincher bug joke. That being said, a pincher bug/earwig that could crawl in your ear and steal ideas from your dreams might be an interesting movie...

You should probably go ahead and amputate, just to get it over with. We can borrow a knife from the grill guys at Zeitgeist on Thursday. Then they can cook it up and pair it with some beer.

There's a big knot where the bite is, but the itching has thankfully stopped.  Now I can sympathize with you guys when you give each other that rash.
