hello,
I have a 02 750 dark. recently i see it started leaking oil from the head cylinder, those spaces between were filled. I think the gasket or w.e is there broke or smth.
The mechanic at the dealer told me to clean it once in a while and add a little of oil every time.
How bad it is if i ride it the way it is until the season ends? How can i fix it ? Can i work on it myself? do i need any special tools to open it up? if yes what? Please let me know. thank you !

Dood...
take a breath and relax. [thumbsup]
You can ride it until the season ends, and longer, if you keep the oil topped up.
Is it leaking between the head and cylinder or the cylinder and the cases?
I don't really know where it leaks from.. but it looks like it leaks between the head and cylinder. not sure..
how can i check? do i have to remove the tank and all that?

Get some degreaser and clean things up.
Get some aerosol foot powder and when the engine is clean and dry, spray the area with the powder and then run the engine.
The source of the leak will be apparent.
thank you ! i will do that.
so i don't even have to bring it in the shop when the season ends. i would really like to fix it .. but they told me its gona cost me around 700$ + they gona need to send the valves somewhere for readjustment or something. which is going to raise the price i guess. i wanted to open up the head, replace the gasket or use some type of sealant. i read somewhere there is some sealant the harley guys use. on the other hand i read somewhere else :D, you need some special wrench for opening the head. idk what/who to believe. i know the dealer will rip me off. i'm pretty new to all this. i need all the help i can get [thumbsup]

There is a 'special' wrench which can be made if you have a welder, or know someone that welds.
There isn't a head gasket per se on your bike...skip the Harley sealant. ;)
Dealers don't necessarily 'rip you off' IMO.
If they fix your bike for the agreed price they, by definition, treated you OK.
Is it a wad of cash?
Yup.
Can you do it yourself?
yup.
thank you again. i ll look forward to fix it at winter time.. i ll get myself some manuals and do it .
^ 'ats the spirit. Its nothing you cant handle if you move at a pace that doesnt leave you questioning yourself.
