Title: S2R 800 Tachometer Issues
Post by: hackers2r on July 16, 2010, 04:20:45 PM
So here's a new one.  When the bike is started the tach reads correctly.  After riding for a while and up to temp. (200 F) the tach reading at idle drops from ~1250 to ~900 while the bike itself is running perfectly.  Warmer than that it just keeps dropping, all the way to 0!  I contacted my dealer and he suggested disconnecting the gauge plug and cleaning and reconnecting which I tried with no success.  I am going to take out the sensor now and try cleaning it.  Anyone have any other suggestions?  If not it's this attempt and to the dealer tomorrow!

I have 2003 620 and it does a similar thing.  It's not just when it's warm.  I need to be riding a good hour or more.  After a point, the tach will read several hundred to 1000 rpm low.  It's not just at idle, but at cruising speeds as well.  I've never done anything about it, and forget to mention it at services because it doesn't happen every time.  I'm also curious if anyone else has this happen or knows what's going on.

I had that happen and eventually my voltage regulator died and left me stranded...  :-\

Really?  Hmm.  My dealer is thinking it's something with the gauges.  I'm taking the bike in tomorrow for them to check.  I'll update the thread as soon as I hear what it is.

So my dealer concluded it was a bad dash.  Being replaced under warranty.  No bike till next Friday!

Well my bike is finally back!  However, I have a question for the pros.  The mileage on my new gauges reads 0!  Can't the dealer transfer my mileage onto my new gauges?  Thanks.

There should be a way to update it to the actual mileage. If it resets that easily to 0 then I would do that right before I sold mine.
