Title: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: theprocess on July 19, 2010, 04:05:25 AM Installed one of these today in my 696. Single horn (5A), low tone. No relay. Stock horn harness connectors clipped right on. Needed to relocate the bracket to the empty oil cooler space but it fits under the cover/cowl fine. Sorry, I forgot to take pics during the install but its really very easy.
A lot louder than the stock horn and nice low tone. No more "meep meep". (http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/8393/fiamm.png) Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: ducamonsta on July 19, 2010, 09:35:22 AM how much did you pay? where?

Any auto supply shop for around 15 bucks.do they make one that will trigger heart attacks in the Floridians who come north in the summer?... Yes and Yes. Fiamm Ultimate Blast Horn (aka Stebel Nautilus). or one that will trigger involuntary bowel movements in soccer moms driving short bus SUVs? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_x_6200020-P_x_x?cm_mmc=CSE-_-Shopping-_-VALUE3-_-VALUE4&srccode=cii_13736960&cpncode=21-67919424-2 (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_x_6200020-P_x_x?cm_mmc=CSE-_-Shopping-_-VALUE3-_-VALUE4&srccode=cii_13736960&cpncode=21-67919424-2) i definitely want a new horn, its either this or the stebels. anyone have experience with both? From what Ive read the Stebel Nautilus is significantly louder but will require installing a relay (not plug-n-play).Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: DucatiTorrey on July 19, 2010, 05:53:37 PM link?

Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: Wonked on July 20, 2010, 05:14:23 AM Love my Stebel Nautilus. You must install it properly (angle of horn, and relay). But it will wake the dead if you do.

For the Stebel Nautilus, did you use one of the wiring harness kits ("deluxe" or "plug n play") or wire it yourself? Wondering if the $20 is worth the hassle... Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: theprocess on August 09, 2010, 03:40:16 AM Depends on the current drawn by the horn. Stock horn button and wiring should be able to handle upto 5A. Stebel Nautilus draws 18A, relay required.
Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: r_ciao on August 09, 2010, 06:12:12 AM Thank you theprocess. That's exactly the definitive answer that I was looking for. According to Fiamm, the Freeway Blaster uses 10A and it is suggested that I use a 10A in-line fuse when I wire it up. I've read that others just do the plug n play. While that may work, it probably isn't a good idea to forego the relay. So now I just have to run out and get me some wiring accessories and wire according to the relay instructions. I'll post up install pictures later...
Ciao! Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: theprocess on August 09, 2010, 07:43:08 AM 10A is only if you are using a pair of freeway blasters (low and high tone). Each horn pulls 5A each. So if you are running 2 then you need a relay.
Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: r_ciao on August 09, 2010, 09:52:01 AM So...
If I'm only using the low tone, that's just 5A and I don't need a relay? BTW, where did you find this info? online? Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: Raux on August 09, 2010, 10:18:27 AM documentation shows a 10A fuse on 1 horn

In any case you should have a fuse. The stock wiring runs thru the stock fuse box. Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112, install help needed Post by: r_ciao on August 10, 2010, 10:04:17 PM o.k. something's wrong.
it's either a bad relay, a bad fuse, bad wires or something else. could it be me? i believe i hooked everything up correctly. i even tested the horn by hooking it up to the original female blade connectors. it works, but am concerned that i actually need to install a relay to prevent future costly electrical bills. i used the original horn wires and hooked them to the relay: purple wire connector to relay's #85 blade, black wire connector to relay's #86 blade. i used a wire to connect the relay's #87 blade to one of the blades on the horn, which according to the horn's installation instructions is not polarity conscious. the other horn blade is connected by a wire that was included with the horn and is grounded to the frame. finally, i connected the relay's #30 blade to the positive battery terminal using a wire with an inline 15 amp fuse. the fuse is tucked in under the tank near the battery. the wiring kit's relay is a 40 amp. the relay is installed at the front of the bike right next to the horn using the original mount. so what happens? key in, ignition on, engine off, lights work, turn signals work, dash lit up, horn doesn't work. when i depress the horn button i hear an electrical "connection" sound, but nothing else. for the fun of it, i even switched the connectors from relay #85 and #86, and back, but still nothing. i've since removed the relay to test the horn only using the original connectors. yep, it still works, but i'm trying to figure out this damn relay hookup. any advice? please help. either bad relay or a bad connection got a multimeter ? now would be a good time to use it Title: Re: Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn - Low tone 72112 Post by: r_ciao on August 11, 2010, 08:25:58 PM i don't want to be a thread jacker and lament about my install problem, so i started a new thread here:
