Title: Next motorcycle... Post by: Grappa on July 21, 2010, 11:32:53 AM Had to sell my M900 a few months ago. I still miss it. :'( But looking seriously at picking up a Supersport 1000 or possibly a SC1000. I have a specific 2005 Supersport 1000 that I will be looking at next week, and possibly a 2006 SC 1000 the week after, and was concerned about bad valve guide issues. I've read that they are common with the DS1000 motors. When I have a looky at the SS1000, what might I notice with the engine startup/running/test ride that might indicate bad valve guides? Also, with VIN in hand, could I call a dealer to find out if that particular bike was prone to have bad valve guides? Both bikes are below 2000 miles, and both are being sold by non-Ducati dealers, and there is no local Ducati dealer where I live, so I would just be cold calling a service department somewhere randomly.
Title: Re: Next motorcycle... Post by: Triple J on July 21, 2010, 11:41:09 AM I'd suggest calling Ducati Seattle and asking someone in service what to look for. I personally couldn't tell mine were bad just by listening or riding on my MTS, but when the 6K service rolled aroud Duc Sea said they needed replaced because the valves moved too much.
