Title: custom fuel tanks? Post by: mattc7 on July 21, 2010, 02:59:08 PM Does anyone know of a good fuel tank fab shop? I was hoping to get something put together, preferably similar to the ETI-FuelCel materials, to give my 1100 a more sporty front shape similar to the late model supersports. Not many places have the time/resources to do a ground up one off tank.
Let me know if you know anyone who can get this done! Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: Mojo S2R on July 21, 2010, 09:06:35 PM <-- Check out the Sponsors on the left.
Don't know if the CA-Cycleworks tanks will fit the bill: http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/fuel.html (http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/fuel.html) Maybe try contacting Flight Cycles or MotoCreations. Pretty sure Flight Cycles has made some one-off tanks and MotoCreations is working on larger capacity replacement tanks, maybe alternate shapes too - don't know. Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: mattc7 on July 22, 2010, 07:29:24 PM I would have no problem with that, if I knew I could mount it, AND that it would fit well.
looks like I'm on the hunt for a 99+ ss tank, to measure up/test fit Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: Raux on July 22, 2010, 07:34:50 PM interesting idea.
take out the fuel cell in there and add a different style but mind you you're changing a lot more than just a shape the 1100 fuel cell sits more central and lower on the bike than an SS tank which sits on top of the rails and forward. that's a big change. and you'll need a new airbox, computer mount, battery mount and a lot of electrical parts are mounted on the airbox as well. Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: Turf on July 22, 2010, 10:00:56 PM and if you're really into the idea i may be able to source your ss tank. There was one shoved all the way in the back of a shop i used to work at...hasnt moved in 6 years and is in good shape. May be able to talk him down. PM me if youre interested.

Airbox/mounts are planned replacement anyway with Wasp pod filter kit whenever it becomes purchaseable. The manner of how the tanks sit in the frame is what I was initially meaning by whether it will fit. I don't know whether it will function properly, given the different angles of the frames, different widths / etc. If he wants to let it go cheap, otherwise I was thinking of finding a leaky/crashed tank for fittng purposes. I wonder if there's a difference in the fuel pumps? Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: Ducatl on July 23, 2010, 09:24:51 AM You should be contacting these dudes,

It's a shame these guys are going for the "completely stock" shape, since if you're going to the trouble of making an AL tank, why not go the extra bit and make it look more custom like the old RoadRacing tanks? If I had a plastic tank Monster, mine would be on order! [thumbsup] Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? Post by: Moronic on July 24, 2010, 12:39:29 AM Wow. I sent an email asking whether they made an injection-type Monster tank that fitted the 07+ S4R/s with its different fuel pump plate but got nothing back. ??? Since they are built to order it seems possible they would do specials also - for extra $ of course. BTW: ETI also say they do customs. Title: Re: custom fuel tanks? I contacted ETI initially, but given the scope of the project, and the location, it wasn't feasible for either of us. |
