Looking to add a GPS system to my Duc. Does anyone have a good recommendation on one to buy or a good iPhone mount?
All the mounts I have messed with suck, plain and simple. Don't be cheap there and get a good one. As for the GPS, TomTom had the only one that advertised shock and water resistant that was under 300 clams. So far I have used it in the car to go through Yellowstone and on the bike for several 100 mile loops, and a trip into Nevada, and even with the basic, no-subsription service it worked great. found our hotels, places we wanted to visit, and helped us around construction (laptop and internet required for that one).
I've had a Garmin Zumo 550 for 4 years now. I love it. It uses RAM mounts to attach to the bike, mine goes in the middle, right between the clocks. It came with a hard wire kit to power it on the bike, a suction mount for the car and takes SD cards for additional map uploads - when traveling overseas. It is completely waterproof, and has 3 easy buttons to work with gloves on. Plus, it has bluetooth and XM if you want to stream tunes / instructions into your helmet if you are so inclined. The only downside was the price. But, it has worked flawlessly now for 4 years so I guess the outlay was worth it.
I really want one but the price tag might kill me ($600 for the Zumo 550). I might just have to go without one for the time being or get a RAM Mount for a different model. I know my iPhone will only help out for so long and accuracy via Google Maps is somewhat shotty.
Thanks for the intel on the Zumo is looks sick!
