Title: OK, we're back to eating meat again...
Post by: il d00d on July 22, 2010, 08:28:55 AM
Interesting article on environmental impact of vegetarian and other diets that include meat - link (http://motherjones.com/environment/2010/07/is-vegetarian-diet-green)

"... aren't my salads, cage-free egg sandwiches, and veggie burgers always better for the planet than any kind of meatâ€"no matter how responsibly it's raised?  Not necessarily, says Gidon Eshel, a Bard College geophysicist who analyzes the energy payoff and environmental impacts of food production... Eshel believes most veggie burgers are the caloric equivalent of 'shooting yourself in the foot.'"

I was a vegetarian for 6 months once.  Then I forgot and ate a whole box of cocktail wienies.  Oops.  I remember thinking, "ok, we're back to eating meat again."

for most people its not that not eating meat is a bad thing ,a lot of folks are protesting the way that the meat is raised or slaughtered.I have seen some films where the animals are abused in one form or another and that raises the questions put forth by groups such as PETA. I could not eat a cow that was raised in a cage and never knew the outside ,fresh air , or the roar of your Ducati as it goes by. Laugh at me if you will but here is how some of you may relate to what I just said. How many of you are pissed off with your work because you sit in a cube all day in some shitty office with stale and stuffy air and the guy in front of you weighs 300lbs sweats profusely it stinks and he farts a lot. You quite rightly pregnant dog about that. Think about the animals that cannot. That is why most vegans or vegetarians prefer not to eat meat. I dont eat much meat , probably only twice a week. I eat bread, lots of greens and fruits, and all kinds of other stuff, but I am cutting my meat consumption back, and ya know what? I feel better and  I have more energy.
Now where's the eggs and bacon........ [laugh]

I agree with you, and I don't eat meat everyday.  My mom is a vegetarian though she never forced it upon my brother or I or made us feel guilty.  I once saw a particular video leaked by PETA, I'll spare any detail of it whatsoever, but I didn't sleep for a week, no joke, it was beyond disturbing.  I'm a foodie also, and where I shop I do know where the meats are coming from, which oddly enough does make me feel better about devouring them.  ;D

I was a vegetarian once in college...  Hey, I was a poor musician and lived off of Ramen Noodles.  :P

Oh, wait... does the chicken-flavored powder count as chicken?

If so, I guess I wasn't really a vegetarian.   [roll]

marginally better than a jumbo can of those so-called Vienna Sausage on the shelves of 7-11's ....usually next to the Spam...

ate half a large can of those once while good and drunk

I couldn't have done a better job on myself if I had washed back a box of exlax with a quart of castor oil
