Somehow less is not more in this instance.
And here I was thinking it wasn't possible for a 999 to look any worse than when it was sitting on the showroom floor.

It's got a Road Warrior appeal for me - I think I'd like to ride that bike.

Why would you like to ride it?
Seriously. What do you see in it?
When I look at it, all I see are mods that make it look worse and are less functional than stock parts.
Hey, let's cut down the stock belt covers to save weight.
Oops, now they don't protect anything and look stupid.
Well let's make a custom front fender.
Oops, now it doesn't keep any spray from coming up in front of the windshield and doesn't protect the radiator for shit.
At least it's lighter b/c it's smaller.
Wait. It's made of metal instead of plastic (or better yet, CF.) make the beast with two backs it, let's move on.
Okay, let's do a custom tail section. Wanna start with a rear fairing that looks like the rider just farted out a comet?
Sweet.
Now let's make a seat that'll smash the make the beast with two backs outta your balls on the tank.
Well if we're gonna do that we need a sweet custom tank.
Cool. Let's build one in our garage so it looks like a 5th grader drew up the lines and we didn't have the proper tools to make the lines straight.
Hey, about that seat... let's drill some holes to make up for the ungodly weight of the tail section behind it.
And now for the pièce de résistance, let's design a front fairing that looks like the make the beast with two backsing thing from Alien.
Wait, but let's give it a really big forehead. And make the beast with two backs any wind protection from it. Let's just make it useless and add to the weight of the bike.
Oh, don't forget to cut down the heat shield on the exhaust so
it's totally useless too.
Cool. Now let's decide on a color scheme. I want polished.
No way dude. Matte.
Screw it, let's do both.
Nice. That'll fit in great with the stock gold forks.
Now whose name are we gonna put on the frame?
At least it has an open clutch.
[roll]
eta: Hey, at least they left the stock radiator hanging out like a turd on each side instead of making a custom one.
I dig it. [evil]

Did you say that just b/c I hate it?

Yep it's a toss up
is fun to look at, is an expression...............I tire of it after 15 seconds.......would never want it......fugly...
I like his aesthetic when applied to vintage air-cooled machinery (the older the better), but it just doesn't fly in this case. IMO.
terrible. Vomit. Everything about it is horrid, wretched, half-thought, garbage, Id be ashamed to say I had anything to do with this.
It should be destroyed. [bang]
I totally love it and I hope it blows some fresh air into those bobber chopper old people style custom stuff thats on TV way too often !
ZERO style ROCKS !
has a mad max feel to it. i like it.
I want to like it, but I just don't.
what if i tell mad max to put a loaded gun to your head? ;D

I hate it as well. Non-functional...and ugly.
It's on its way to becoming a great track bike. Nothing a stock tank and set of track body work can't fix!
I like most of his other work, he has his vision of how to customize bikes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. At least this one seems to get either an "I love it" or "I hate it" reaction, so he is on to something, not just the same set of ideas floating around on how to make a custom. I'd like to see it in person. [thumbsup]

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Put different bodywork and tank on it, and that thing would rock :).
i dig it, it's completely make the beast with two backsing out there
like a 999 made in the iron age of the future
All this talk of function on a Ducati Monster forum? ;)
The tail section is actually an exhaust box
I like it, I think it looks neat with somebody on it

Overall i'm not a big fan of the end result. I do however have an appreciation for the amount of time spend making those body parts. It looks like ALOT of time was spent hand shaping the panels, etc.
Functional? Hell no! Artistic Expression, F*&% Yeah!

I think it looks interesting on it's own, but I don't really care for it. It does look somewhat better in the picture of it being ridden though, for some reason.
Like it or not (for me, its a not) that thing would be a pregnant dog to ride on a sunny day.
I think it's pretty cool!
I actually like the futuristic look and love the lines of the tank. I feel like its the bike Major Tom would have bought if he'd made it back to earth.
I love it.
i'm not a fan of the paul smart front fairing. it would probably sever your pumpkin off if you're remotely tucked.
There are flashes of aesthetic brilliance amongst the chaos of the overall machine...
I just get the feeling I'd need a tetanus shot after riding it.
