Title: How small are my calipers Post by: techno on July 28, 2010, 01:18:03 AM As part of my overall S2R800 upgrade, I purchased some 4 piston, front brake callipers from an S2R1000.
Side by side, they make my current callipers look puny. And no, I'm not holding the new ones closer to the camera. (http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx193/techno_photo/calipers.jpg) No wonder is such a popular upgrade. Can't wait to finish this mod so I can feel the power. Might have to start lifting weights to build up my arms so I can hang on. :o Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: corey on July 28, 2010, 05:08:16 AM brakes just slow you down anyway....

Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: Airborne on July 28, 2010, 10:38:48 AM How much did that run you? Are you upgrading the BMC to a bigger size? I def wanna do this next.
Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: suzyj on July 28, 2010, 02:08:24 PM Oooh, that looks nice.
Reckon they'd look even nicer in gold... Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: DarkStaR on July 28, 2010, 05:48:20 PM Hey, I think those were mine! [cheeky]
how much more does the new setup weigh though? If I remember correctly, the 4 pistons are still lighter as the 2 pistons have that silver bracket that the caliper mounts to. Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: techno on July 29, 2010, 01:00:10 AM How much did that run you? Are you upgrading the BMC to a bigger size? I def wanna do this next. Um, about $150 USD plus postage. (Yes Darkstar, I believe they were yours). I assume BMC means Brake Master Cylinder. I don't plan to at this stage. I just need to buy some rotors and I have dual braided lines I think might fit. As for the extra weight, I don't think I will be worrying about unsprung weight when some numpty driver pulls out in front of me. Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: BK_856er on July 29, 2010, 08:18:40 AM how much more does the new setup weigh though? My memory is a bit IZ_, but when I switched over from the stock setup on the M695 to 4-pad brembos with narrow-band rotors I seem to recall that the total package was a good bit lighter. I weighed things, but I can't find the numbers! BK Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: Heath on July 29, 2010, 09:44:39 AM Are you saying my brakes are... small?
Title: Re: How small are my calipers Post by: R0CKETMAN on July 29, 2010, 11:33:34 AM Looks like your caliper just climbed out of some VERY cold water.

Actually they are easier to find in gold but I wanted the black ones as there is no gold on my bike at the moment and I think it would look out of place. Nice thinkin' Techno. That's why I went for the silver 4-pads like BK's. I have since found a bit of gold creeping onto the bike [bang] [laugh] EDIT: Oh and when I saw the two calipers side by side I thought 'don't those 2 piston calipers look cute' - still do when I see them on a bike. There's a big advantage to the black ones, and that's cost. Having bought gold ones, I fear the days are numbered for my black rear caliper. |
