Title: 696 will be in Melbourne...
Post by: ptooey on June 06, 2008, 03:00:49 AM
21st June, Saturday.

Well that's what the guys at Ducati Melbourne told me.

Test ride's been booked in.

We'll see if it looks better in real life.  ;D

The promo photos I reckon look crap, but some of those review videos floating about make it look better - but it is still a bit wrong.

Agree with you on that Betty, I'm not really that down with the look of it.

Will always favour the traditional Monster look, but the old school Monster has really begun to look a bit dated.

I just wish they didn't have to be so revolutionary with the design.

It looks... 'stumpy' to me. and Japanese.

Have you seen these though.
I think it looks pretty prudy with this treatment.

I'd have to agree with you Matty.

Even though there are some things i don't like on the 696, there are still some things I don't like with mine, that's why we change things on our bikes. It's all part of the adventure. [thumbsup]

Exactly, how wicked does that black one look.

Chopped from the factory, shorty tail, pipes make it look mean.
620 has something like 58-59 hp the 696 is 89 hp.
As much as an M1000 from a few years back.

me thinks it'd be pretty weapon like, could even be a trade up for me next year.
who know? will be at the shop to ride one for sure.

Black is what started to swing it for me originally.

Still not keen on losing some of the trellis, but from some angles it looks good as the sub-frame blends in to the bike more. Swing arm also looks very jap bike.

The cans look too fat (up that high) - so aftermarket options could produce something special ... and as for the exhaust routing, I keep changing my mind.

Power isn't everything Matty, you proved that yesterday (but I see what you mean).

Yeah look quite true power isn't everything, all I find is I am wanting more Ggggrunt out of the corner.
Aside from that I am pleased with what I am on.
As for the looks of the 696, I am still a fan can't wait to see it in the metal.
We'll see where we go from there.

Matty...

There are two sitting at Frasers in Homebush right now. I saw them this morning, they were already sold. 696 looks pretty neat up close. The 696 has a fender and it needs to be eliminated.

Dam I went in earlier in the week to see if they were on the floor yet.
Will drop through again this week, might even go down to the Gong for the fun of it.

Thanks for the info Craig, hope you enjoyed yesterday.

What do you reckon Matty? Can you wait till Thursday?

Are you up for it?

Thats the point Bazz, not eveyone likes the new look, but Ducati realise they need to improve and modernise it. Personally I agree, the true italian design stuff isn't there for me. I do however prefer them trying things then leaving it too long to make changes and risk the monster being labelled out dated and not seeling then cease production of the fine machines. Time will tell...
