Not trying to get things stirred up or anything... but I've been back to the old board a few times to check for stragglers who don't know where everyone has gone.
Anyway, 18 days ago, I took a screen capture - then did the same again today. In that time, there have been 1591 new posts, or 88 per day. This data is skewed: for 10 days, quite a few people were writing farewell posts etc... so the real count is probably 50 or less posts per day.
In that same time period, this board accrued something like 30 000 new posts.
I've seen some odd things on the internet.. but NEVER anything like this. Rule 1 of community based forums - keep the community happy [shakes head].

Is that really a banner ad for remote controlled cars? :o
Maybe the new members/posts are the new 696 owners looking for the famed community. The DML has a huge internet footprint relative to other Ducati Monster site searches so it's understandable that they choose the blue pill instead of the red pill when doing the clicky-click thing. Good work on the subversive infiltration!

lol - I hadn't even noticed the banner add. Yes, remote controlled cars.
re the DML footprint, I've been thinking about that. If we all ended each post with the words 'Ducati Monster' or one of a list of five common mods, the impact on google would be massive. 100s of interconnected pages dealing with monster related items. Hell, we could even put them in out signature lines. :P

What are you implying? That thread is in the no moto content and is a post about rc info, on the dml, its a banner on the top of the page of a ducati monster forum (not said in an angry tone). there is a diffrence
Ducati Monster Worldwide
Ducati Monster Worldwide
Ducati Monster Worldwide
Ducati Monster Worldwide
Ducati Monster Forum
Ducati Monster Forum
Ducati Monster Forum
Ducati Monster Forum
Just tryin' to do my part. :)
Isn't this just the coolest Ducati Monster Forum ever? I'm so glad I was invited over to the new Ducati Monster Forum. I've made so many new friends through the Ducati Monster Forum!
How many times do you think I can use Ducati Monster Forum in the same post?
[cheeky]

I'm
implying saying that there is actually interest in RC cars on the forum, thus justifing the advertisers choice in demographics. That's it. Not a big deal.

Now, there's an idea!
It will even apply retroactively to all of one's posts, which could make for a really huge count. If one didn't actually want to look at all of them, I suppose they could be colored the same as background.
Edit: I can't quite figure out how to make it all invisible, but black is pretty unobtrusive.
clever on the surface, but ultimately reeks of spam. I know I wouldn't want to see it plastered everywhere.
c'mon, we're above that.

You wouldn't want to see
what plastered everywhere?
...wait for it... [cheeky]
This actually works, on another forum I hang on we recently got bored and decided to see if we could get it the site to hit when you search "elephant hysterectomies" needless to say a motorcycle forum is now the top several sites that pop up when you google it.
Hmm... wanna see if we can overtake sportbikez.net?
elephant hysterectomies....
LOL... I had a link to the thread on my sig too, it takes a couple weeks for google to recognize it.
elephant hysterectomies...... [laugh]

Not sure I agree. I think of spam as unsolicited email, off-topic postings to a newsgroup or message board advertising something, or perhaps excessive advertising cruft on a webpage (cf. the current DML). People put all sorts of stuff in their sig lines, from personal philosophy to links to other websites to pictures of their bikes or kids. Those things aren't usually spam.
QuoteI know I wouldn't want to see it plastered everywhere.
Is my sig line
really all that intrusive or annoying?
Quotec'mon, we're above that.
I don't think I'm with you here, either. People do all sorts of things in the name of search engine optimizing, things far more egregious than what's being discussed here.
One point here is that even putting "Ducati" in front of "Monster" in your bike's description, despite the fact that the manufacturer is a given and could surely be taken on faith, can make this forum easier to find for someone searching for it and lots more likely that someone NOT specifically looking for the DMF will stumble across it and thereby enrich their lives (I'm not kidding - see below).
It took me a day or so to find the DMF from the DML, and that's because I was looking diligently to find where everyone had gone. I have nothing against the DML and still check it out every few days or so. I found it purely by accident because of a casual Google search. That led not only to my finding a like-minded group of people to argue with, but to the decision to get my first motorcycle. I even found my bike for sale there. It is safe to say that the old forum added a great deal to my life. However, it's not the resource it once was.
I have absolutely nothing against anyone's using the DML. I just think it would be a disservice to them if they couldn't find the DMF just as easily.
elephant surgery..... please. [roll]
I am hatin' on Nate
so all i have to do is end my sentence with something like ducati monster forum?
or should end it with ducatimonsterworldwide?
just curious, because i have already answered a bunch of questions about tail chops.
and exhaust mods.
and clip ons
and rear sets.........

+1.
I've simply put the worlds 'ducati monster forum' under my avatar pic. The other thing I did was make www.ducatimonsterworldwide.org the web page listed in my profile info. The 'title' of the web page can be anything - for example I made the title 'Ducati Monster Forum where I learned how to do a tail chop'. It's quite invisible, unless you do a mouseover.
Yeah I think it's a cool idea to put it into your profile info somewhere, if everyone were to do so, we'd have over 63,000 hits on it already. Every post by every member..... let's be careful not to become to big though, we don't want VS looking at us again.... [roll]
elephant hysterectomies....
I notice that as of the time this is posted, DMF is the 3rd result on Google, below DML and the DML General Monster Forum. Of course, that's with the old ducatimonsterworldwide.org URL, not the ducatimonsterforum.org one. Nice to see how quickly it's moved up.
Why are those elephants getting plain ol' hysterectomies and not hystersalpingooophorectomies?
So, typing "Ducati Monster" into Google doesn't result in a hit for this website on any of the first 10 pages. Now "Ducati Monster Forum" is different, but really, how many people would actually type that in?

Not at all surprising, seeings as how we've really only existed for 6 weeks. A lot of us put a fair bit of time and effort over the years into pushing TOB up the search engine results, now we're doing it here instead, but it's going to take a lot more than six weeks to happen.
