What's up?

Huge hug from me. Sorry it can't be in person.
Know that we care.....
Big Hug.
Dad has been in and out of the hospital the past few months.
He spent a few weeks in the rehab hospital after they did the tracheotomy and was on course for going back home, but problems with the tube sent him back to the emergency room a few days ago. They appeared to sort all that out, and he went back to the rehab hospital, only to get bounced bad to the ER the next day due to an abscess problem. For the past week or so he'd been attached to a feeding tube, but was breathing on his own, last night he stopped breathing, and he " coded out" a few times, and now he's on total life support. (which goes against his wishes)
Michelles been with him since 4 this morning and I'm home with the boys.
The battery on the Saturn died the other day, so Michelle has been using the truck.
I can't leave the boys.... I can't go get a battery for the car..... I feel stuck and I want to be there for my wife
make the beast with two backs
Sorry to hear BP. :(
Sorry to her bp, good thoughts and hugs from my me and my wife ~

I know a guy in Bako that may be able to bring a battery to you. I just sent him a message. PM the size battery you need and where you need delivered. If he is able I'll have him bring it to you. I'll let you know when he gets back yo me.

Thanks Carl. I think I'll take the boys on a lil hike. Walmart is a mile or so away.... maybe lug'n a battery around in a backpack will help put my mind right. :)
More hugs Joel. Does he have a POLST form? If so, they have to do what it says.

Okay. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Is Michelle's dad the brother of her Uncle that lives in Montecito or is he on her mother's side?
Sorry to hear all of this. When you get to the hospital give Michelle a real life hug from me and Melissa.
And seriously, if you need anything let me know. Even if its just a stiff drink at Harry's.

I'm not sure. He had been against a feeding tube, but consented to having it done, so I'm not sure where he stands in all this. Michelle said that the doctors told her this morning that he may have brain damage as a result of last nights episodes. He's been out since then, so nobody knows what to do at the moment.

Yup.... he and Uncle Norm are brothers. Both have breathing issues. :'(
See if the hospital has a palliative care specialist. They should help with options, paperwork, and end of life issues.
Jeez, Joel -- that's a hard turn. Lean on the ones you need right now, and be ready for them to lean back. Good luck!
Sorry to hear BP. :-\
I hope things turn out okay for you guys.

Just got a call back from my friend. He was willing to pick you up a battery on his lunch hour. I told him you had it covered. He said that if there was anything he could do I should just let him know. There are good people in the world that will rally when bad things happen. So that's nice.
Also let me know if there is anything we can do for Norm. I like that guy. M & I certainly wouldn't mind taking him out to Harry's now and again, or just checking up on him. He has some neighbors looking after him, right?
virtual hugs coming your way.
just read this, Joel hope things work out for the best, let me know if there is anything I can do to help!
Big hugs to you and Michelle from us.
Big Italian Hugs. Keep your chin up.

we've been trying to get over there to visit him, but issues with dad and work have made it next to impossible. The sad thing in all this is both he ( dad ) and Uncle Norm havent spoken in years..... and the way this is playing out, they both will pass on never having been able to resolve their issues and forgive each other. Uncle Norm has some really great friends who have been keeping an eye on him. He's still very much mobile, he just can get too far away from his air supply.
Thank you all for the well wishes.
Michelle is home now. I took the boys to get a battery and helped them install it in the car ( then I made them wash it ;) )
The plan is to do some neurological test on dad later today, and depending on what they find..... well, we'll see what happens next.
The wife and I hugged it out in the garage for awhile......I feel less hopeless now.
Umm, how about a heartfelt e-handshake instead? Bro hugs are creepy. :P
Awww, ok here's a big 'ol hug. :)
Hey, why did you pinch my ass?
Sorry to hear that. Went through a similar experience last year.
Brings back not-so-old memories :'(

:'(
I hate to say this but I wish it were quick. :'( :'(
Sorry man. :(
If you need me to kidnap that stubborn brother of his and drag him to Bako for the services I'll do it. Seriously, I'll drive Norm if he is willing to go.
Really very sorry about the whole situation and Michelle's loss in particular.
Ah nutz, Joel...I am sorry hear that you and your family are having a rough go of it. Nothing like a little "garage hug" time to set things to rights.
Today I flew over Bako and I sent you good wishes and didn't know why you were on my mind. Funny that.
Let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Breaks my heart Joel.
I had a similar experience when my Father died w, Cancer and slowly suffocated to death.
Nothing can ease the pain now but just know that you have lots of friends and cyber friends that are sharing your pain with you.
Big hug.......

I/we thought about doing that ourselves..... but he's tethered to his oxygen supply and can't be more than a few hours away from home.
It's not the happy ending we had hoped for them.
Thank you all again for the well wishes. I needed to vent a lil, and as usual..... ya'll have been great family.
Good luck Joel and LM. :(
Best of Wishes to you and Yours BP. :)

Dude, so sorry to hear about this.
Make sure you take care of the kids. I was more affected by losing my grandparents than I thought I would be.
Sorry man, wishing you and LM the best in a tough time.
You are both in my thoughts and prayers.
Sorry BP about the bad news.
More hugs to you, LM, and the boys.
He will be in our thoughts.
Sending big hugs and we are so very sorry.
I know you and Carl have talked but if there is anything we can do we are here for you both!
Please let Michelle know she is in our thoughts, sending love.
**HUGS***
Thoughts and prayers for you two and family....
I've been working so much that I just now stumbled across this. Sending luvs and hugs your way.
Extra oxygen tanks can be arranged quite easily. If you wanna get Norm out there, find out who his home O2 provider is and just make a phone call. When I worked as an RT, we'd run a hose to the wall in those kinds of cases and supply oxygen to the family member, or loan 'em one of our tanks.
yep, as the lady says
or
if and when it becomes time senitive...within hours
you can make arrangments for medical transport so they can see each other before the end
cost will depend on how persuasive you are, local media loves that stuff, get them involved and whomever runs the ambulances down there may donate a crew
i've done it a few times up here and for the family it is worth every dime
They removed the assisted breathing the other day..... he passed away early this morning.
Sorry Joel.
I'm here if you guys need me.
Hug.

Hey, everyone. I just found this thread yesterday and I wanted to thank all of you for your warm thoughts and wishes and for supporting Joel through all that has happened in recent weeks. I certainly wasn't in a position to be there for him as much as I usually am and I appreciate knowing that his dmf friends have been standing by him (and us) as we've gone through everything. We are lucky to have such a wonderful bunch of folks in our lives.
Michelle
We're lucky to have the two of you in ours as well... :)
