Title: Seat coming loose/opening
Post by: cakeman on August 14, 2010, 01:06:05 PM
Hi, my seat is opening while i ride. I make sure it is closed properly before going for a ride but it is popping open. I am starting to get a little concerned. I am not sure if the latch or something needs to be tightened but cant really see any where to make adjustments. Any info would be great.

Thanks in advance

Mine occasionally does this. I just consider it increased excitement for my ride.

Pull every little piece apart, clean well and lubricate - I guess.

I think the latch is pushed a little at every movement, but if it's not moving ~freely it might not get back to zero in between.

Don't really know, but cleaning and lubricating is never wrong  :D

If you did a tail chop (some times even with out), you may need to add washers under the lock/latch mechanism.

Yea i did do a tail chop. It was not happening before the chop. I cant see why it would make a difference though.

When you say add washers, do you mean on the pin side (under the seat) or take the latch apart and i can add washers underneath it?

The washers go between the latch mechanism and the frame.

I had the same problem after a tail chop, and got even worse with the exhaust set-up (brackets).

In most cases the pin is not latching properly. The washers move the latch closer to the seat, allowing the pin to latch properly.  Sometimes 1 washer (each side) is enough, but sometimes more will be needed.

I haven't figured it out why it happens after a tail chop either, but it's common enough.
