Title: Right Side Rear Blinker Keeps Blowing
Post by: cakeman on August 16, 2010, 06:02:21 PM
Hi, i have got a set of aftermarket indicators. They are not LED but a high wattage bulb. I have replaced the full blinker with another set of the same however the bulb has just blown again. I dont have any resistors in between and i am wondering if you have any info to help solve this.

Cheers

Andrew

Vibration maybe?  Is the signal housing in close contact with anything (e.g. seat cowl)?

+1

And how is the signal mounted?

Yes, the cowling is touching the signal. It is mounted in the competition werkes indicator panels which come with the tail chop.

I will try mounting them so they are not touching the cowling.

With the mounting, do you think it should be fine mounted directly in to the indicator bracket?

Cheers

It "should" be fine...

By any chance, is there any difference in the way the right side is touching vs the left side?

Mounting them so they don't hit the cowl will be a good step in the right direction.

2 observations that are not very helpful in this case, but maybe generally helpful.

I've seen a high correlation between tailchops/aftermarket blinkers and bulbs dying quickly.

OEM configuration treats the bulbs pretty well.  [beer]

50,000km with four stock signals - four bulbs still going strong[thumbsup]

OP: wires pinched? Exposed metal somewhere? Connectors connecting each other?

I've had decent luck with my tail chop(s) and signals.

It's probably because I normally throw on some cheapo signals that I don't really care about on right after a chop with the thought that if they ever blow out, then I'll get something better.  They all still work for almost 5 yrs.

That would not normally blow the bulb out.  The fuse will be blown in that case.

The right side was touching the col a lot more then the left. I have got a new bulb and positioned both so there is more of a gap between the cowl and the indicators.

Tanks for the advice... i have a set of resistors, not sure if it would make any difference seeing as they are not LED
