I did several as I needed more than the standard lowering as I had to reduce the height by more than 2". The only constraint will be the variance between the bumps and exhaust at the bottom of the bike. The feel of the bike too will deteriorate as you go lower.
The best investment would be the lowering link that takes off about 1.23" max. You can easily get one from Jeff at Monsterparts.com and keep the OEM link. Alternatively, if there is a machine shop nearby, you can cut the OEM link and rethread. I find these loweing link option much better than cutting the foam off the seat as the OEM seat pretty comfy (IMO). If she is relatively light, you may also soften the springs at the rear a tinny bit. Better still - get riding boots with a thick sole (the Daytona Ladystars are some of the many good choices available and pretty steeply priced too but worth the investment). Once your lady pal gets used to the bike - just a bit of support during stops, even with just a toe is all she need. But until then, reducing the height to a level she feels comfortable helps tremendously in building confidence and pleasure with the ride. Been there, done that...... http://www.easterncycleducati.com/ecdparts.htm As far as I know if you lower the rear 1" then the front must also be lowered by 1". You will need to drop the triple clamps to make all things equal. Post by: Slide Panda on June 06, 2008, 06:16:56 PM 620s had a lower seat than other monsters of there era. I'd guess that the seats on the 695 are identical to 620 seats.
If you do opt to shave the seat, look in the How To Section. MangledBug recreated her detailed step by step shaved/gel seat tutorial. If you drop the rear you don't *have* to drop the front - but not doing so will increase the rake and trail makeing the bike less willing to turn in. So, you should do both. As nats noted, the more you lower it, the less the travel the rear suspension will have available. The further you go, the less there will be.
