Coming from a history of inline 4's i found the engine braking on my M1100 a little too much, not to mention the odd rear wheel lock up on down shifting. So i thought a slipper clutch was in need.
  I brought a DP slipper, and i must say this has transformed the bike, well worth the money. Riding in traffic in the lower gears is so much smoother and easier, not to mention down shifting at speed. So any one struggling to make the change from inline 4 to big low revving twin, this is the answer. Just thought id share my experience with you all as it my help some one else.

Honestly, not trying to be mean here, but did you never learn to rev-match your downshifts? I mean with ducati's twin its even easier because on a lot of downshifts you don't even have to rev the motor, you can just keep the throttle steady at the opening you currently have it and that will supply even "rev" to match the downshift.

Obviously a slipper is the true easiest way, but its still always a good idea to learn how to downshift and rev match

Is there really that much backtorque to notice it communiting? Commuting is about 50% of my riding if not more, and ive got a stock DS1000 motor. Ive never had a problem with the engine braking as much as I do on the gearing. the engine braking is welcomed if you can ride smoothly at slow speeds.

Yes i can and do rev match my down shifts, but coming from a bike with 14000 rpm to play with and a second gear that you could drop into at 120mph if you wish, it's been hard to adjust to the monster. I sometimes found  i would rev match and slowly let the clutch out slowing for a corner to find the back end starting to lock and back in.
  It's just a case of trying to get use to the slower pace of the monster, and the slipper has made this easier and a nicer bike to ride in my opinion.
  I also find it smooth things out in traffic.
