Title: 999 instrument cluster fried?
Post by: Uncle Mofo on August 20, 2010, 10:18:45 PM
Since my S4Rs is in the shop getting a fork seal replaced, one of my friends said I could use his 2005 999. He has loaned me this bike before and it runs smooth and problem free.
Well tonight After a spirited a ride, we stopped to eat. After I returned to the bike the tachometer was frozen solid at the 13K (still is) none of the idiot lights are working.  The LCD display is just a green blank screen now, no speed displayed no time no miles. WTF
Turn signals the front left one works every now and then, the other 3 work just fine high beam works, bike starts.
Anyone has any ideas, or ever heard of this problem? Bad fuse?  I feel real bad to call my friend tomorrow and tell him  :-[

I've no experience with dash failures on the **9 bikes, but your description doesn't bode well at all.  :-\

Check the fuses, just to be sure.
You can try a 'reboot' by unhooking the battery for a while and then reconnecting.

I talked to Doug the owner of the bike. He said it has happened before and was just a fuse.  I'm going to pull some fuses out now, and report later.

Pulled the purple fuse out, the closest to the nose fairing and the needle dropped. Reinserted said fuse and everything is back to normal  [thumbsup].
Now I just need to replace the turn signal bulb.  Thanks.
