Title: 2 up riding seat Post by: He Man on August 23, 2010, 10:38:38 AM What seat do you guys think is best for 2 up riding?
the DP seat is only $250, the corbin and sargent are really expensive but you can find deals on them every now and then. Of course i thought about buying a 2nd gelpad and redoing the passenger seat. It would only cost $50 and i LOVE my modified gel seat, but the passenger section is very different. and $250 isnt much to pay for a nicer seat to begin with. mine is starting to have little mini tears and im sure it will need replacing in another year. Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: Slide Panda on August 23, 2010, 12:53:36 PM Sargent seats are not for passengers. There's not much padding for the passenger area due to the smugger tube.

I just want to get a good seat for the next gf. My last gf was pretty tolerant and as long as we were hanging out witheach other she didnt care so she didnt say much. So i guess for the next gf if she got on the seat and it was a comfortale ride, she would be more willinging cuase again my last gf wouldnt care as long as we were together doing something. Not going to find too many girls who are like that. Im thinking if i do a gel pad, i could carve the seat flatter so you have more area to sit on, vs now where ur just sitting on sliver of seat. Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: erik822 on August 23, 2010, 05:38:39 PM The Corbin seat I have on my 900 is dished slightly for a passenger and offers a decent spot to sit. I had a Sargent seat for a while and liked it, but the passenger section didn't exist. Not only did the seat slope backwards (like the factory seat) but it didn't have ANY physical support under the passenger section. The passenger is literally supported by a thin piece of plastic that ends up resting on the tail light.

[laugh] the story of El Matador and DesmoLu.
Back ontopic, make the beast with two backs the 2up seat. And make the beast with two backs getting back with the exgf because i didnt have a damn thing in common with her anyway. I feel better saying that. Im going to spend my money on another trackday. Asking to meet a girl who is into motorbiking is too much. You can only be so fortunate to have a gf who shares at least some of your interest to begin with. Sorry DML for hearing my 5 am broken heart rant. There's quite a few couples made in the DMF. Mr & Ms Inc, Sacduc and Polpetta, Mother and Jbub, Lu and I. As for seats, Desmolu seems to like the Sargent just fine. I guess coming from the stock monster it's an improvement. But really the corbin seems to be the most passenger friendly. Too bad they're so make the beast with two backsing hard, and expensive. I had great luck with a Triboseat covering for my stock seat. Can't beat it for < $25 delivered. http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=40455.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=40455.0) Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: erichan8757 on August 30, 2010, 07:15:17 PM thats too far and few. i wish i could meet a girl who rides! the grandma next to my apt rides a 1975 vespa. i will introduce you, she's recently single. lol Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: Raux on August 30, 2010, 07:26:45 PM the grandma next to my apt rides a 1975 vespa. i will introduce you, she's recently single. lol that's a cool lady... Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: pitbull on August 31, 2010, 02:17:47 AM My girl and I have tried the stock, corbin and sargent seat and while the corbin is best for 2-up, it's still a brick and sucks for anything more than an hour's ride. We do a number of weekends up to the adirondacks or eastern Ontario each season, so we had to come up with something better.
She decided to get her license a few years back and now she has her own monster...........so problem solved. Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: erichan8757 on August 31, 2010, 03:10:12 AM put a side cart.!!!
solution number 2!!! Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: He Man on August 31, 2010, 07:58:09 PM My exgirl is poor like me. So no bike for her. Eitherway its not my problem. Im going to pick up a gelpad, install it. and call it a day.
Title: Re: 2 up riding seat Post by: Moronic on September 02, 2010, 10:41:03 PM For anybody who really wants a satisfactory two-up seat on a Monster, I recommend the following steps.
1. Find somebody with a late 07-plus S4Rs or S4RT and check whether the seat fits your bike. These seats have an extra boss either side of the latchpin which adds support for the 'pillion' section. That extra support prevents the seat resting on the tail light housing when loaded with passenger. Sorry, don't have an easy pic but the plastic bosses are moulded into the seat pan about the same place as the rearmost rubber bumpers on this Corbin design: (http://www.corbin.com/ducati/dm9-7_base.jpg) It is easy to distinguish this later model seat from the 06-and-earlier version. 2. Purchase said seat, either new or from a wreck. 3. Send said seat to an aftermarket seat builder for remodelling into a two-up version. Tell the builder it doesn't need to accommodate the rear cowl (because you won't be using the cowl when carrying a passenger). 4. Fit remodelled seat when riding two-up. That is essentially the route I took. Works brilliantly. Seat is comfy for two over just about any distance. Surprisingly, still looks very good. I had the builder also remodel the front for more comfort, plus add about 15mm height front and rear. The extra height makes a dramatic difference to leg comfort for the rider, no more cramping for me (182cm tall). [thumbsup] Downside: cost. Sorry, no pics available but if anybody was desperate to see the result I could take a couple and post. Other option of course would be to have Corbin build a custom seat for you along the same lines. Their stock model is constrained by trying to preserve ability to fit the rear cowl - not really necessary since seats are so easy to swap on the Monster - and for some reason they make the rider's section lower when for many of us it needs to be higher. I hope it is okay embedding Corbin's pic in this post - I figure it is a free ad for them. Edit: Perhaps worth noting that these late model seats - and the Corbin above - were not compatible with the Ventura rear bag system I had at the time, and AFAIK that's not changed. |
