That's right, it's SFPD Quota Time again! I saw multiple [leo] on Geary today, pulling people over for failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, along with other B.S. violations. It's an obvious sting operation and they do it just about every month. The [leo] also like to park at 9th and Division, near Gold's Gym to bust people for the same violation. An innocent pedestrian (who is sometimes an undercover [leo]) can land you a hefty fine so keep the hooligan antics to a minimum.
...or just run.
Damn...and I was starting to get a good kill count on that stretch of Geary too.
Quotas are irregal in California!!!!
Anyone telling you differently is full of crap or is breaking the law :)

As much as they are illegal all public servant positions need to show their worth by generating cash flow.
In my industry take Cal-OSHA as an example. Right now they have to justify why they are needed and why we can't be like the rest of the USA and use Fed-OSHA. So they are hitting up more job sites then ever and writing citations and giving out fines for some of the most mundane offenses. Anything to bring in the money.
If your station brings in more money then any other station, do you really thing they are going to lay off those guys before they lay off the station bringing in half as much? No way. So yeah maybe there isn't a written piece of paper saying "Our Quota for this month is...." but you can bet it's an understood thing. Write more tickets then the next guy or lose your job.

Exactly. I know quite well that there's no official "Quota" but it seems like an obvious expectation of the PoPo by their superiors--write up more offenders so the station gets more funding/bonuses (or something like that). It just seems like a quota to the rest of us.
IT'S QUOTA TIME!!!!
Or alternatively, individual SFPD stations have had a long-standing practice of conducting weekly or monthly pedestrian sting operations (depending on the station), particularly in the Geary and/or 19th Ave. corridor, which is a hot spot in the city for pedestrian fatalities and injuries.
That's probably bullshit though. I'm sure they don't give shit about public safety and are just looking to pad their coffers with $ from innocent drivers who just happen to try to mow down pedestrians in crosswalks.
And this, ladies and germs, is why we don't have law enforcement discussions here on the the DMF. Thank you all for playing. Be sure and tip your waitstaff.
I'd lock this, but I trust y'all to keep it civil. If you're not civil I'll just delete the thread and briefly glare at you on Thursday for making me actually do some mod related activities and/or work
Reminder: We don't discuss this sort of thing because this is basically a religious debate (a synonym for "A debate where everyone's tempers run high and nobody's mind is changed")

if cops are going to get laid off, its based on seniority.. less time you have on, more likely you are to get canned.
There are no quotas
and traffic cops are a weird bunch, but they dont write tickets to save their jobs.. they like that boring crap.
They need some more cop shows on TV.
