On my s2r theres some sort of sensor tucked in behind the headlight on the headlight bracket. Is it a temperature sensor for the fuel injection system? That's my only guess.
that's exactly what it is and yes it can be moved without any issue.
It senses air pressure as well, so be sure not to put it in a closed box.
If you should go below sea level, like we do through tunnels here, it triggers the Check Engine Light.
The ECU understands altitude, but not negative.

Ahem. That sucks, does the CEL go out when you get back above sea level?

My bike seems to run without any issues whatsoever, not even this one on my bike 8)
It happened to others and it was fixed at my dealer. I don't know how.
