Title: ducati performance megaphones
Post by: the duke on August 24, 2010, 07:09:07 PM
hi guys, long time lurker first time poster, and I was hoping you could help me out.
I've got a monster 695 and am in the process of upgrading the exhaust system, got the dp airbox/filter and the dp ecu and am about to grab a set of exhausts.

My question is are all exhausts made for the various dss monsters interchangeable? As I have my eye on the old dp megaphones pipes as seen on "tostapane", the candy apple red bike on the botm page.  Its just that I've only ever seen this exhaust on the older style carb'd monsters with the 'hooped' swingarms, so would they fit? and would they work on a fuel injected bike?

heres the link to the exhaust on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260499547998&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3138wt_1026 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260499547998&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3138wt_1026)

and before you say hit the search button, i've had a search through the forum albeit not all that thoroughly, and haven't found much, so any information to point me in the right direction would be well appreciated.

thanks.

Hi Duke welcome.
Tostapane is certainly a nice bike and it to like the pipes.
I am no expert on  carby verses injected bikes but i can't see an issue with open pipes on either.
those pipes on ebay look ok but not sure on the baffles, if they are easly removed if the are any at all. :-\

Have a look at Mivv pipes at pjs these twin cone  ss slipons look good if your after  megaphone style  also with removable baffles.
A few people will also recomend Mivv cans/pipes ;D

Yeah, I can't believe I forgot about the mivvs.  I was looking at them awhile ago and now they completely slipped my mind.  Might be the safer option to go with.

thanks for the input rob

I'm working on a classic cafe racer style so was after megaphones as well -  I was looking at the mivvs but to my mind they seemed a little small, so was a chasing a second hand set of DP megahones but then I found these marving pipes. Very happy with them good looks and sound, and a bit more classically styled than the mivvs. I think Sil also make some nice megaphones.

Duke, if you are a long time lurker you'll know I am an expert in nothing, but the bikes Rob has posted above may answer your question ... one being a 695, the other a 'hooped' bike.

I can't imagine there would be much difference ... the 'rearsets' and exhaust mounts seem to be the same. All you need is someone that actually knows to confirm it [roll]

Oh and you'd better introduce youself in the Intro thread before Matty gets upset [cheeky] ;D

Hey Duke,

Good to see you have registered and join the band of merry Monster riders.
I went for the exact same thing as you are doing when I first got my 620 and sourced a set of DP megaphones.
Got them from another member here who had them fitted to his 900 carby from memory. After much piss farting around
looking for different mid pipes and also being very very green they didn't fit. Simple story was that the pipes were the exact
same diameter and no amount of persuasion was going to make them fit.

So no I don't think DP megaphones will fit an F.I. bike, not unless you are buying knock off's that are made for them.
The Marving's or Sil Motor's Ollie suggested would be about your next best thing, especially that they have a baffle system.
Cause the Megaphones that I have heard are LOUD!

Oh and do drop into the intro thread to give us you vitals, only cause Betty suggested I might get upset.
Not true I am very  8) calm and collected.

cheers
Matty...

Thanks for the feedback guys,

yeah those marvings look killer ollie, you wouldn't have any other pics floating around the forum? your bike is just the direction I'm trying to take mine, at the risk of you thinking I'm copying your style, are these the same pipes?

although I don't mind the slimmer look of the mivv x-cone... might just have to flip a coin on that one.

and thanks for clearing that up about the dp megaphones too matty, thats just what I was afraid of.

now on to the introductions page post-haste.

How about some oval, tapered, reverse cone megaphones?

 [laugh] Just messin' with ya.

Damn those pipes were clean once [roll]

Thanks, I don't think there are any other pics on the forum with those pipes on. I installed them earlier in the year and haven't ridden the monster too much over winter, it's a bit nippy in Canberra this time of the year, plus my attention was focussed on another bike project. Springs almost here though  [moto]!
I'm happy with them but I was in the same situation as you and almost got the mivvs - it's a bit hard buying stuff online when you havn't seen it in the flesh - go on get the mivvs so we can compare ;D
Don't worry about copying anyone's style I think most of the mods that people do are influenced or inspired by other bikes in one way or the other, all mine certainly have been.
